Any Suggestions? My son is trying to get me turned to a Griffith!

You can buy a used 'Honda Insight' for that money and save a fortune in fuel doing 300 miles a week. In the summer that will only be 3-5 gallons a week with sensible driving! 75-100mpg+ cool

Buy a post March 2001 car and get free road tax as well if you can. laugh

E36 M3 Evo. Old beemers last forever. Fuel = 55 miles to a tenner maybe.
Thats if you're talking peformance car. If thats a bit thirsty buy one for six and get yourself a £1000 banger. Needn't actually be a banger either, a grand gets quite a good user these days. You may want to spend £999 and keep a pound for a brown paper bag to wear. Novelty would wear off before the first 300 miles were up though.
Weekdays paperbag, weekends driving.

What speed is that at? Is it a diesel Hybrid?

56.7 mph everywhere! just ignore those funny signs with numbers painted on at the roadside.

No, seriously, thats at motorway speeds and a bit of gridlock. Thats what my 328sport returns and a mates M3 was pretty similar. I do get more if I make a concious effort to be really frugle.smile

Replied to wrong bit there (I'm great at that), and just noticed you've got a nice 944 there. Probably renders an M3 pointless.smile

well i think that needs a few months off the road, and even then it needs to be used less. Its getting rusty, and the valve seals are failing. Plus, its at 145,000 miles. Thinking of a small scale restoration. So performance cars are welcome!

Well, after watching Top Gear repeats, diesel BMWs are looking quite attractive at the moment.(P.S. Not entering it into Britcar!)

Well thats where I'd put my money (M3). Some of the jap stuffs ok. Early honda integra typeR if you can live with FWD. (I couldn't).

Watch those "minor restoration" projects though, Eh? I'm busy bringing my 964 back to A1 and its going to have me in debtors prison I think!!smile

Sure someone else'll be along soon with somemore good ideas.

Integra Type-R. Forget the FWD thing, it really is a great car. Howling 9000 RPM engine, confidence inspiring cornering ability, 30++ MPG economy, 150 mph top end (if that matters), cheap running costs. Wasnt Evo mags no 9 rated drivers car of all time for nothing wink

If you go for an import make sure its the 98-spec as they have bigger, better looking wheels, and better brakes, and are more saught after and will depreciate less. Otherwise go for UK version.

If you mean the LPG then you may recoup the initial outlay in fuel costs due to the miles you do but, if you look you'll notice the government are steadily putting the price of that up on a regular basis.
It's not the bargain it once was.

just bite the bullet and go for the griff!!!

you can use a TVR as an everyday car with no problems...the trouble starts when you leave them for weeks on end and then expect it to perform really well on the odd day you decide to take it out...
Come to think of it mine has not broken down for over a week now... hehe

I meant the cars, they do sound like my sort of thing. M3s seem give alot for their price

Joking aside, I just need to get 300 miles a week with absolutely no problems. I doubt a TVR will never miss a beat like a big BMW or something

Just to clarify, is this 300 miles spread over a week. i.e 60 miles per day or one 300 miles journey each week? Is fuel consumption important? Reliability? The reason I ask is that there is a whole world of difference between a Bentley and a Caterham!
I'm looking for a 300 mile round trip a week car (150 there one day, 150 a few later) I go down to Hull as I have work there, (bet your all sooo jealous!) I need decent fuel consumption for that sort of distance and I don't want to spend my time in service stations, I've got to restore the 944

P.S. After seeing the fuel consumption on the Bentley, I think I'll rule that out! A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of a 1.2 Audi A2 (3L) apparently this is a limited edition in Germany which'll manage 150mpg. This is great, but it'll be like driving a golf cart down the A1

I think you could rule a Caterham out for that sort of useage. They're more than up to doing those kind of journeys but aren't much fun on motorways. I think the novelty would wear off very quickly.

An Elise is much more doable but you'll be looking at early S2's or late S1's. If you do go for an S1, I'd look at getting full carpet set, upgraded stereo and 111s seats as a minimum (you're welcome to come and have look over mine BTW). A VX220 would maybe be a better prospect again.

The others all look ok to me so I guess you need to narrow your choice down to four or five cars and go and try a few.
