Pretty random question but i thought I'd put it out to the NEPH massive. I'm running me second car on vegi oil and I'm looking for somewhere that sells it in bulk for around 50p a litre, less if possible!

I've tried the usual suspects makro, costco, supermarkets etc

Anyone doing the same?

the fast food chains and the chippys may be a good bet

I'm looking for unused oil. I havent really got the space to store and filter gallons of veggie oil.

gather you've done the research into this? it's not safe for all diesels really, generally older ones with less electrickery.

General consensus is that lucas injector pumps don't like it (bosch are fine), might want to thin it down a bit more than normal with a little bit of diesel (10% seems to be the norm) over the winter, and so on.

you can get waste oil delivered in massive quantities for not a lot, but we're talking thousands of litres not a shelf full from asda. places like this http://www.biodiesel-fuel.co.uk/wvo-supply/ will happily sell you 30 tonnes of the stuff.

As I'm assuming your not after quite that much, I'd suggest somewhere like batleys or makro could be worth a try, or even tesco value / asda smartprice type stuff, as the supermarkets can hammer prices right down.

Alternatively, pop into the chippy and ask them who their supplier is and chase them up.

A likely story, come on come clean, you've put a transit diesel engine in the Cerb. You'd never be able to tell the difference in sound when its cold wink

Yeah I've done alot of research, I'm running a rover 220DS. Many people on the rover forum have done this with this car. Like you say its mainly older, low-tech diesels with the sturdier bosch pump that are suitable. At present I havent modified the car in anyway and I'm running about 60% diesel to 40% Veggie. I'm going to fit a inline fuel heater to get over the viscosity problems of running higher concentrations of oil. Once thats fitted I should be able to run 10% diesel 90% oil.

If I can avoid it I really dont want to start processing my own waste oil, I know its not particularly difficult but I'm just a little short of storage space.

I've tried makro your still looking at about 70p a litre. Sainsburys do little 1 litre bottles for 50p but they rarely have any in and when they do you look a bit of a tit buying 20 bottles at a time smile

Batleys? I've not heard of these? Do you have a link/number? I'll have a word with the pizza shop over the road from work as chippys tend to use solid blocks of fat.

Byff, you got to love that early morning rattle from the cerb!!! I know they all do that, but it really sounds unhealthy. Fortunately since I got my new exhaust i cant hear the valve train clattering together. Mine must be starting to sound almost as insane as yours did. evil

batleys is a cash and carry alongthe lines of makro, but predominantly for food stuffs.
it's just up the road from the police station in chester-le-street on the bypass that takes you up towards stanley.

I think it's a great idea to use a little brain to avoid stupid tax on fuel. But I thought the Gov had got wise to this and there was a requirement to pay tax on veg oil if it's used as car fuel?

I completely understand that there's no one in the world who's going to fess up to HMRC and cough over the extra tax, but I just wondered what the rules were _supposed_ to be.

Cheers.
(PS - good car, I have the same Rover, but with 161k on the clock it struggles to start on 100% diesel some cold mornings!)

Goverment changed the rules on this. As of the end of july. You can now LEGALLY use upto 2500 litres of veg oil as fuel TAX FREE!!! It takes a slight shine off sticking your fingers up at the goverment as they have given you their permission, but its still means you can legally run your car for about 50p a litre. thumbup

There are people who collect used oil from restaurants etc etc and re filter it and resell it.
I think that would be the cheapest you can get. Be worthwhile asking your local restaurant who collects their old oil.

My mate ran his 306 dt on 90% old engine oil and 10% petrol. Yep it was a diesel. He says it was the best mix for it and tryed allsorts of combos to get it right and said this one was the best mix.
