Hi i have almost finished my kit car and i need transport to get it to the SVA testing station at Sandy Lane probably within a month..
i have access to a car trailer but unfortunately due to the low ground clearance ("75mm) i cant get it on as the ramps are too short for the height of the trailer.
my question is... does anyone have a low level car trailer that i could hire or borrow for a day. or know of anyone who does..
i live in the stanley area (durham)

if you wanna see what ive done check out here www.mevrocket.talktalk.net

thanks
Paul

I have an old trailer that you're welcome to borrow, but the load bed is quite high - my Tiger has 5.5 inches of ground clearance and just barely scrapes over the rear end and tops of the ramps (the fibreglass scraped on the trailer slightly) even with some wooden booster planks on, so I suspect the trailer you already have is better. My trailer has also been sat for over 2 years and was a bit crap to start with.

You could always drive it to the SVA (although you'll need to trailer it the DVLA office in Newcastle for their "inspection"...)

Sorry I cannot help you with a trailer but I will be in the same boat soon with only 75mm myself. Maybe call at Daves (DJ auto gas/tool hire at stanley. He may point you in the right direction.

You may need a trailer a few times if Mr reade is doing the test. lol

Are you going for new reg or age related.

Ian

I have borrowed Petrolhead's trailer before to take my MK Indy to get the exhaust made. The MK is a bit wider than a Caterham, so it only just went on.

When I registered the car at Gosforth DVLA they insisted on me trailering it up there. So I hired a trailer from Indespension in Byker (although they have now moved to Shiremoor). Massive tilting bed Brian James trailer cost me about £35 plus the VAT for the day.

Might be worth a try.

Cheers

Mike
