Anyone going this Sat/Sun?

I have no idea what to expect with a rallycross event at Croft so thought I'd pop down with my son and see what it's like. With the exception of Designers route through the field, I'm wondering where they'll have the "off road" sections.

Don't know how much it is, website only say's £20 for weekend and £13 for the Sunday, but I only fancied going on the Saturday. Last time I was at Croft, I ended up with two new tyres and a full set of brake pads, at least it should be cheaper this time biggrin

Byff, I'm going to try to get to this. For the spectator this is great racing because all the activity is on the first section of the circuit and so all can be seen from the banking at Hawthorn or round the rear of the track. From the start they go through Clervaux, Hawthorn & Chicane. Then before they reach Tower they turn onto the infield and follow a route through the soil/mud rejoining the circuit near Hairpin.

If it stays dry until the weekend i hope they've booked the Water bowser in advance to avoid a repeat of the farce we had for the British Championship meeting the other week biggrin

It was a bit foggy early on..

First run for the Supercars after the Fog cleared and Pat Doran leads the way...mostly because the cars following had to slow down due to not being able to see hehe

Per Eklund (yes, THAT Per Eklund ) Having a look around the track during the "Church Break"

Dermot Carnegie (Fiesta) and Andrew Jordan (Focus) having a bit of a battle..

I believe there are 1 or 2 people on here who like this sort of thing wink

Loads more at www.bhppix.co.uk if anyone's bored enough to look smile

I've been a Rallycross fan for as long as I can remember, and this event last year was the best Rallycross the UK has seen since the 1986 Internations Cup @ Croft.

Where else can you see 10 550+bhp cars blast off the line together, 0-60 in 1.9seconds....yes thats faster than an F1...and head into the first corner alongside eachother often sideways and nearly always on the power.

Up until two yrs ago the UK guys were running unrestricted Turbos and Pat Doran was pushing 840bhp in his RS200...brutal. But to attract top Europeans to these kind of one off end of season events UK went with the European restrictors bringing the power down to a mere 500bhp.

For spectacle the Rallycross supercars are hard to beat, and 13 times European Champion Kenneth Hansen is among a very strong entry this weekend.

Those of you that work in Newcastle, today between 11 and 2pm there is a media day on the Quayside down by Spillers where a selection of the cars will be doing demo runs.

Sunday should be a great day out.

Cheers
Andy

Typical, I just notice this now when there's no chance of me getting down there to have a look.

I'll just have to wait till the weekend, probably go down on the Sunday. Don't suppose anyone can blag free tickets hehe As my gran used to say, shy bairns get no seconds.

Keep half an eye on the local news tonight, not sure which channel but there was defo TV presence there.

Kenneth Hansen looked awesome, as did a couple of the UK regulars Kevin Proctor (Puma), Dave Bellerby (Saab rented from Eklund) and local lad David Binks in a Mitsubishi just purchased from one of the Euro championship competitors last week.

Roll on Sunday.

Here's something to whet your appetities from the media day today.

Kenneth Hansen takes off from the line, he reckons it does 0-60 in about 2.3 seconds

Per Ekland on full sideways drift

Michael Boak's Audi TT

Hansen again doing do'nuts

Mad Mark Watson in the Xsara

David Binks in his new Evo

and finally Phil Chicken in his mad Lupo

Cheers

Great Super Prix today with plenty of action. Reminds me of the days when I used to compete in British Rallycross some 6-7 years ago. Good turnout as well and weather held out. Great entertainment.

So you're not familiar with the tale of 2 of Shane Byrne's Rizla Suzuki bace bikes and assorted tools & equipment going missing overnight during a 2 day BSB test last year ?
Croft is 5 miles from Darlington. It's not immune to crime sadly.

On a happier note, what a cracking weekend that was. I'll post some pics when i've worked through them all.
