Hi. I need to get the wife's recently imported Trooper/Horizon 4x4 chassis waxoyled, as being Jap it has near-zero underbody protection. Is this the sort of thing any local garage will do, or do you get specialist places? If the latter, can anyone recommend one?

I know it's a DIY job really, but frankly I can't be arsed smile

Thanks.

That time of year I guess wink

Okay so there's a place in Morpeth (waxworks) that charges £360 eek but the wisdom I've gleaned in the last 10 mins surfing suggests £130 is nearer the mark. More concerning is not many people recommend waxoyl, but prefer Shell Ensis or Dinitrol.

Guess I need to start ringing around...

I know when I've had it done at TVR indies they generaly charge about £150. If you find a good place will you let me know? I seem to remember there was a place in durham that did MX5's when they were imported from Japan. Dunno if its still going though.

Minimoog, I'd no sooner pay £360 to do this job than smeer myself in the stuff!!! Although saying that... I've just done exactly this to my mini not 2 weeks ago using the hand pump and extension probe. I'm too tight to pay someone else to do it, but was still suprised at how easy it was really. I'm looking at doing the CR-V in the near future but am looking for a small second hand compressor first.
I know this dosen't help you look for a garage, but its really not as bad as it seems to do.

waxoyl is fine for pumping into chassis rails etc, but I much prefer to use a decent underseal which has waxoyl in (or equivelent) for everything else.
There's one you can buy from halfords which fits the bill (it does stay quite "tacky" though), and a few hours spent with a brush can work wonders.
Always done my own, and always will, as I don't trust anyone with my car for that sort of thing. Never had a problem with rust smile

Pete they did my chimaera and charged £180. Although he did say that if he had realised how many tubes there were to do it would have been more biggrin. Did a good job though, it all depends on how much time you have and can you let your driveway get up to the naffs as to who does the job IMHO

I've sent them an email asking for a rough estimate. I really dont mind paying £2-300 as long as I know the jobs been done properly. My old Chimaera cost me thousands to put the chassis right frown
Looking at their website they seem to know what they are doing. I'd probably take it into their workshop that way its easier for them than lying on their back on my drive.

Would certainly be interested in paying someone for a decent job as I really dont fancy two or three days under the car then the same cleaning myself and the garage floor.
