am looking for a good value honest reliable independent Merc specialist in the NE, preferably in / near Newcastle. Anyone know of one? Cheers.

I asked this question before when I had problems with a gearbox. Staiths Garage in Dunston 01914604381 was the common response. They look after a lot of Merc taxis which is always a good sign. They also saved me from a bill of £2600 at the Merc dealer and charged me £160 for gearbox flush which solved the problem. A "c" service cost me less than £200. Also they spent a full day on my car before identifying a problem which then needed to be rectified by the local Merc Garage as goodwill gesture. They encouraged me to go to the dealer for the replacement part as it was safety related and did not charge me for their time. Fantastic service!

don't use just merks, They WERE good but one of the senior mechanics left and they are rapidly going downhill IMHO.

My dad was back there with a fault 5 times and was charged ridiculous amounts although he had been a customer for over 20 years. The fault still wasn't rectified and we found out that they had been using re-con parts
