Hi

Recently posted this on the Porsche forum and was just wondering if anybody had any ideas...

Can anybody offer some advice on trying to trace the cause of an ongoing stalling problem I've been having for six months..

Usually it takes between 4 and 10 key turns to start. On the occasions where the car starts first time, after a couple of minutes of driving it cuts out completely. Pulling over and restarting usually sorts this out and the car is fine for the rest of the journey.

The non factory immobiliser has been ruled out and the following have been replaced:

DME Relay
Flywheel Speed Sensor
Alternator
Fuel Filter
Idle Valve

The car has been in and out of the garage a number of times and Im concerned I might never get to the bottom of the problem.

If anybody has any suggestions or advice, Id be very grateful.

Cheers
GaryC

Can't help with the problem unfortunately, however i'm interested in which garage your are using for your fault finding confused as a good Porsche Independent should be able to sort this pretty quickly IMO.

Specialist Cars in Malton or Redline Racing in Thornaby should be able to help with their extensive knowledge in mechanics and fault finding. wink

have you looked at normal service parts like spark plugs or coil packs or whatever ignition system your car runs. is it running fine after its been initially started and run i.e. running on less cylinders etc>?

Had this problem on an early BMW 320 once, it turned out to be a faulty fuel pump relay.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Its still going on and seems to get worse with the cold weather.

Im at such a loose end Im taking the car all the way down to Kings Langley for the guys at JZ Machtech to take a look at it. Im down in the smoke for a few days so hopefully thay'll get to the bottom of the problem.

I'll keep you posted on the progress...

Thanks Gary. I need a couple of areas of the dreaded tinworm in the usual places sorting over the winter but apart from that she looks well for 23 years young.

Hope you get yours sorted and doesn't cost you an arm.
