Hi

Formula1 are quoting me around £370 for a C service MINUS cam belt change (HGF about a month ago so I got this done at the same time). Still sounds like a high price given cam belt is done.

Does this sound right anyone? I've got no reason to doubt f1 as they're always spot on, but in this instance thought I'd ask on here.

They said 290, a bit cheaper than f1. In this instance its easier to use f1, but worth considering.

Also if its any use I took an independent warranty out with Olympic. Think its about 200 quid a year but covers pretty much any mechanical failing parts.

I needed a new alternator at around 500 quid and they coughed up no worries.

F1 were quoting me £400 for a 1 year warranty, do you have any details on Olympic, was also considering the AA for £65 a year, but need to look into it further

Olympic Warranties Ltd, Leeds, 0113 2711180.

I dont know how they rate compared to the others, I went with them as thats who the garage used to give me a 6month warranty with the car.

I briefly read up on them and theres different opinions on how easy they cough up or not - I've only called on them the once for the alternator and they seemed no problem. F1 needed to call them to get an authorisation code and explain the nature of the problem, which Chris kindly did in f1, and that was all that was needed, few weeks later and received a nice cheque from them.

I think they can also resolve the money direct with the garage, but in this instance f1 didn't have an 'Olympic' account setup, so the difficulty was f1's side rather than Olympics, so I had to foot the bill and claim it back.

I think they offer cheaper entry level warranties but I went for a slightly higher level, which means they cover for more expensive repairs, which I thought wise for an elise, cant recall the exact price but I'm sure it worked out just under the 200 quid mark, payable over 6 month installments.

Only slight quirk was, as I was paying by monthly installments, in order to claim I had to first of all settle the balance for the year, but I guessed thats fair enough like.

Speaking of TT - they're hosting an open-day/geo day in support of fund-raising for your local Beaujolais Run team (team "Forensic Excellence" from Darlington). Details are on LoTees here : http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=431&a...

Summary : £50 for the geo service, £25 of that goes into the BJR kitty. If you just want to attend, drink coffee, eat sandwiches and admire Crowley's HGF we're asking for donations of at least £5.

Planned date is 13th October. Let me know if you want to play, I need names and car details for the geo. service to let the boys know what's coming.

Does that include VAT? Also worth noting that there are £150 worth of parts for a C service so even if that's inclusive of VAT, that's £440 with that parts. £490 if its not.
