Although the decent weather is disappearing quick, I wonder what everyone's favourite suggestions would be for good backdrop areas for pics of your P & J ?

I fancy some with the coast in the background but can't think of that many places you can get car near enough (I think my Chim might bottom out on Bamburgh's dunes!), or maybe Roman Wall country near sunset?

Did you not know that the North East, especially pistonheads, is the friendliest place in the country. Go to Bamburgh head along the Wyndings towards the golf course and you will be able to get some decent shots there.
Failing that try Elswick biggrin

With the A19 South partly closed last night, I was driving past the industrial works in Billingham... some of those, lit up, look fantastic - I'm going to experiment tonight after work.

Lumley Castle
Raby Castle
Towards Alston you get the peaks (before you get there, not the hartside) not far after killhope, some good spots around there
Durham Cathedral
The Sage Gateshead
Newcastle Quayside
nr. Cragside Hall
Chester Le Street riverside if you go at the right time of day has a lovely backdrop looking towards lumley castle and the surrounding estate.

Loads more depending on what setting and environment you want smile

Durham has some great views all around. What's the legality of parking around the cathedral, I tend to park on the outskirts and walk into the centre... do you have to go through the charging thing?

I can't wait til winter comes, I love Durham when it's cold and there's snow on the higher ground. Will make for some great photos too...

As far as I'm aware you can still get up there but it's a toll road (during what hours I'm not sure). As for parking well the infrastructure will still be there, whether you can stay for more than a few minutes I don't know. If I get a chance I'll have a pop up and have a look as I'd like to use it as a background myself for some snaps. Wharton (sp?) park just by the railway has some excellent views too with the cathedral as a backdrop provided it's not too overgrown. Not sure if you're aware of it, but the entrance is on the bank heading out of durham centre towards the hospital with the station on your left, just as you go under the viaduct it's there and up the bank.

Other places, I've used the park at Burnhope (nr chester le street) which has a great backdrop for some snaps as it overlooks the entire valley beyond lanchester, and once side has woodland, so you can get a few different themes in one place. Nothing too grand though, but decent enough smile

The roads between Shotley Bridge and Stanhope have some nice stop off points you could get some snaps, particularly as you get nearer stanhope, which itself has a ford through the river and a couple of places to get some snaps.

Hamsterly forest,
Keilder if you're oop north

loads more suggestions now if you're short of a few smile
