My dad's over from Oz tomorrow and I need a decent pub (or non-ethnic restaurant I suppose) to feed him in somewhere along the Ponteland - Corbridge - Hexham axis. Anyone had any recent good experiences? Don't want too expensive so no Matfen Halls thanks, just relaxed surroundings and good quality food.

How's the Feathers at Hedley on the Hill these days? Anyone tried it? other suggestions?

Thanks!

Ta for the suggestions smile

I nipped up to the Feathers and was sufficiently intrigued by the menu to book it. Lots of grouse, pheasant, partridge, rabbit, pig and cow on the menus, including dishes not normally seen at your local Beefeater (wood pigeon and pig's trotter pie anyone?).

Quick follow up - meal at the Feathers Inn was excellent. Everything very tasty, and great service too. Should perhaps mention that portions aren't huge, but that leaves plenty of room for three courses.

Definitely a cut or three above your usual pub fare.

Another vote for Lion and Lamb at Horsley, also Robin Hood on Military Road.
