Places to eat around Middlesbrough:
Indian - Bengal Spices 15 Station Rd Redcar
Best Indian on Teeside IMO
Bar meals - Ship in Saltburn pretty good and also Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge pretty good.
Fancy French steak house:
McCoys in Yarm, 44 High Street.
Excellent food and wine.
The Grill Saltburn
Station Road
Excellent food and wine.
Please let me know what you think if you try any.

Don't know many restaurants but for 'gastropub' food the Golden Lion in Osmotherley is very reliable, if a little cramped sometimes. The menu at Three Tuns opposite looks good too but I've never tried it.
Is Joplin's in Great Ayton any good these days? My mam keeps trying to get me to take her there
Another pub I used to really like is the Bay Horse in Hutton Rudby, but it's gone off the boil lately judging by the sunday lunch I had last week
Even then, it's a damn sight easier getting decent pub grub near the Boro than it is near Newcastle!

Shame about the Bay horse then, it was one of my favorites
Only *just* within 20 minutes of Middlesbrough would be the Dudley Arms at Great Broughton - if you like steak then it doesnt get much better. Beer is excellent too, I always seem to get well pissed there.
Crathorne Arms would also be top of the list but you need to book a few days in advance usually.

It wasn't awful or anything, and I'd go back to see if it was just a glitch, but to be honest it's never been as good as it was 4 or 5 years ago. The other day we had cold plates that chilled the meat off, though the meat itself was good. Generic flavourless gravy (what happened to the the Shrewsbury sauce that used to accompany the lamb?). Poor roasties. Overall a bit mediocre, and poor value at £9 for a main. Desserts were good though. And I have to say, the manager hasn't lost his eye for serving staff

The Ship at Low Worsall gets my vote, Sunday dinner is brilliant, best booking to avoid disappointment though
Good point! Also there is another pub in Great Broughton that isn't too shabby on the catering front: just up from and opposite the Wainstones Hotel... we had the first ever NEPH meet there way back when!
As an aside, I got married at the Wainstones seven years ago this coming Saturday...

C - this has just moved - it is now on the same side of the road as the Cross Keys near the Thai Resturaunt....
Great news, thanks for that Tom.
Are you coming along on Sunday? http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

C - still not sure but the TVR`s and Nobles are both still apealing. think I may need to do some learning about rear wheel drives so may first go for a Caterham or Westie in the interim as the Porsche was a C4 and prior to that I was driving front wheel diesels.
Is anyone going to this meet on a bike or would bikes be welcome?
Tom
