Why the fk do they stop the traffic at BOTH ends of the tunnel when an emergency vehicle passes through it???
I fully understand and agree with them stopping the traffic thats going the same direction as the emergency vehicle thereby allowing it a speedy passage through the tunnel, but its surely not nescassery to halt traffic coming the other way?
Cant a trained Police officer, fire engine or ambulance driver get through the tunnel safely and quickly using only one lane?
Ive been held up twice at the tunnel this week already 6 min & 8 min,it seems they must be stopping all the traffic when the approaching emergency vehicle is still miles from the tunnel! mad

yes

I'm guessing it's for good ol' health and safety with the EVs going over the 30 limit. Must be really dangerous doing that through the tunnel rolleyes

What with escorting the tankers through, the emergency vehicles, the overnight maintenance, the dodgy barriers, not enough lanes, it's almost impossible to get back through the tunnel from tynemouth dominos before the pizza gets cold wink

My pet hate is leaving my girlfriends in whitley bay and driving home to be stopped at the Tunnel at 12-30 at night why a load of blokes who look like chemical factory workers put light bulbs in and clean the walls with a tootbrush. Oh and also not forgetting the Discovery that takes you through because we are unable to follow cones and if we drive over 5 mph someone may get killed.

yeh and thanks to the waxxxxkrs resurfacing the tunnel road ive just broke both front suspension springs after they forgot to put a ramp from the old surface to the one they took off with no signs put up either .so when i took the asda turn off there was a huge hight between the to surfaces .hence needing two new front spring

I smashed my alloy wheels and tyres up on the A19 heading towards the tunnel a few weeks ago after the road surface was removed they didnt put cones in front of the exposed drains. Insurance are currently fighting with the highways agency. I went back to get some pictures and a guy in a Audi hit the same drain having a blow out. Its complete incompetence and i think something should be done about the state of our uk roads.

I did the same in the right lane of the first south bound slip road, it was some drain or manhole. I was slowing for the roundabout so luckily no damage but it was a hell of a bang

Well believe it or not but i contacted the Police about the state of the road and they sent a patrol car down and reported back that it was perfectly safe. ABSOLUTE INCOMPETENCE OF THE HIGHEST DEGREE!!! Luckily my car was repaired in 3 days as i was travelling to the South of France that weekend in the car so you can understand how annoyed and frustrated i was. My insurance have all the photographs i took and seem to agree that the Highways Agency havent got a leg to stand on.
