Toon Hoon 2007 Nurburgring
Discussion
Nurburgring.
I've mentioned this to various people and there seems enough interest to start and organise a trip.
So,....
The 'ring is open on a regular basis although more during the week, but after having a look I think these are the best that fit:-
August Fri 24th (14:15 - 19:30)
Sat 25th (17:30 - 19:30)
Sun 26th (08:00 - 19:30)
September Sat 29th (18:00 - 19:30)
Sun 30th (08:00 - 19:30)
October Fri 5th (17:15 - 19:00)
Sat 6th (17:30 - 19:00)
Sun 7th (08:00 - 19:00)
€19 / Lap (~£13)
I'd be looking at travelling there on the Thursday, spend Fri, Sat & Sun playing nicely on & off track and coming back on Monday.
It's approx. 650 Miles one way.
We can either catch a boat from hull and travel to Zeebrugge, takes all night and mostly sails at 19:00 hours (either way) and cost approx ~£60 each way (Car +2 people with a cabin).
Or drive to dover, catch the ferry for 1 1/2 hours to Calaise and drive (takes about 4 1/2 hours). Ferry goes every hour or so (eg 12:15 from dover £35 for Car + 2 people one way).
Hotels at/near the 'ring are about €70 (~£50) night for a Double/Twin.
So what I need is:- which date (Aug, Sep, Oct) and which route (Hull, Dover).
So show/confirm your interest. Ferries are not so bad, but hotel should ideally be booked ASAP.
The choice, as they say, is yours.......

As I said before, I'm interested, but have to a) check dates, and b) check annual leave left at work.
How long does it take to drive to the ring from Zeebrugge? (in a westy - remembering a cruising speed of 90 isn't as easy as in a 'proper' car!)

eta - the bit about the westy

Jim- You know I'm interested in this
But first I need to check
1) dates in diary (which I can't find) but initially look ok.
2) brownie points looking low so need time to remedy that- should be ok...need to finish the bathroom...
3) check ramp clearances at high/low tides with respective ferries- otherwise its the chunnel for me.
Otherwise (at this time) no particular preference for dates or departure points.
I shall post you a link for an alternative route to the 'ring- avoiding the motorway, if time allows a bit more scenic & a better drive.

We used the ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge, and then returned from Amsterdam to Ncle, and on both occasions the T350 managed the ramps OK. The ships crew took great care to guide us on, and held a nice slot for us.They really look after you, so don't worry about getting on / off.
The ferry also had 'Bulgaria's TOP dance band' on as evening entertainment, so that was a bonus !!

Me too! I went to visit friends in Germany over the last Bank Holiday weekend and we stopped for a lap of the 'Ring on the way. I live in Newcastle and I'm on a limited mileage insurance policy so I didn't really want to rack up tons of UK miles getting to the south coast, or even Hull.DFDS were superb - I totally agree with all of Bomb's comments about the ferry. The funniest bit was arriving at the check-in booth and asking about ground clearance...
Me (concerned): My car is really close to the ground.
Helpful ferry guy: Don't worry sir - there are a few other sports cars on this crossing. Just speak to the loading officer.
...I then drove on to the quayside and there was about 30-odd other TVRs from the Netherlands, all going home after their tour of Scotland!

The full story with a few holiday snaps is in the S series forum:

They're good, aren't they? For what it cost us it was an excellent package. The cabin was very clean ( if a bit 'snug'), and there was a good choice of differing restaurants to choose from. Also a choice of bars and a full nights entertainment thrown in for free. Maybe not your first choice of music etc, but it was well presented, and I could enjoy it for one night. (especiallly the bit when the dancing girls did their bit !)
Plenty of staff too.
We travelled a few months ago so it was quite quiet, thus we had loads of room.
I'd reccommend it as being a quick way to get from the Notrh East across to the continent. Its a quick blast due South into France, then you can head towards some warmer climes without delay.
Roads are excellent too, with plenty of service stations on the way.
....and scenery like this !!
