Why an Elise doesnt make a good Combine Harvister
Heres some more:
I am more gutted that the bloody video camera wasnt working properly. I honestly thought I had it all on video and was looking forward to posting it up.
Anyway, the story goes something like this:
2nd session of the morning, so the track was still a little damp, but drying nicely, in fact it was almost dry.
Flying along the back stright, brake and go down the gears into 3rd. Round Tower and back on the power, 4th, 5th and keep it balanced for Jim Clark Esses. Turn into Jim Clark and the back end starts to come round. I turn into it, but doing 100mph so I was never going to collect it. It leaves the track and ends up backwards in the field, after doing a 540 in slow rotation.
I cant see the track for all the rape seed. The car starts on the third attempt, but just spins its wheels. I have to get out the car and follow my tracks to find the circuit. At this point the marshals didnt know if I was upside down or not, so the session is red flagged, sorry
Tow truck finally comes, but we debate how we are going to get it out as its way off the track and into the field. We finally manage to tow it out, making a more direct path back to the circuit. Once onto the circuit, we remove alot of the rape seed and I drive it back to the pits (where Al took those pics )
I head off to get it jet washed and vacuumed and to make sure its still driveable. After returning to Croft, I gaffer tape the front clam and it business as usual.
Weather remained sunny for the afternoon and we all had a great time on track.
I will remove whats left of the splitter and patch the clam up with blue gaffer tape (cheers for the link Si). I reckon it will repair, but will be keeping my eyes open for another. So if anyone knows of an Elise S2 front clam, let me know.
I am still anoyed that I never caught it all on film.

Somebody told me last weekend, you'll be OK if you do a track day at Croft as there is plenty of run off!! Hmmm, not so sure about that!!
Mark, there's often second hand clams for sale on e-bay, but from the photos it looks like a good body shop should be able to repair that.

Yep that would be me. I guess I failed to mention that there are also obstacles.
The fact is that Croft is a safe place to test the limits of your car and yourself. Just be sure to do it at Tower, Barcroft or Sunny in & out. Anywhere else and trouble can ensue.

You're in good company though I saw Alain Menu do exactly the same thing in Mondeo in the BTCC. He ended up on the infield in what looked like barley, he too couldn't find the track and had to get out of the car to find it - much to the amusement of the crowd
Hope its all easily fixable
