Alloy wheel repair locally
Discussion
Evening guys and girls
Yesterday was not a good day in Tuscan ownership, whilst the car is going great, i kerbed the nearside alloy whilst parking
I know there are positive (and some negative) views on earlier threads about some of the local alloy repair places, none are able to do the anthracite coloured alloy and guarantee a colour match. The option is either get all 4 of my (less than 12 month old!) alloys done, or get one of the travelling 'repair' guys out to do a cosmetic job.
Has anybody got any experience of either Fenwick (Newcastle based) or Picarsso Ltd (Bishop Auckland) who will do a localised repair on the scratched rim? Please PM me if you're concerned about any 'naming and shaming' rules.
Cheers (and yes, i know i'm an idiot for scratching the rim!)

That's sad Paul; I hope you get a good repair. Is colour match that critical on a wheel, loads of curves reflecting light and shadow, you probably wouldn't spot a slight change in colour.
I was gutted mate, you're probably right on the colour match, i'm just going on the recommendation from one of the refinishers that i may end up with a slightly darker / lighter wheel. The other issue is that a full refurb would mean that one wheel would be missing the TVR badge as these aren't available at present. (not that this is really critical though..lol)
Cheers

I tried Romax, and liked his attitude and quality of workmanship (the backs were as good as the fronts etc), however the choice of finishes were limited and bog-basic colours made them look "re-done" rather than OEM if you know what I mean. I got mine done at SEM in the end who had a nice sparkly silver available, but didn't give much of a hoot about taking time on them (ie inconsistent finish in detail areas, primer & laqcuer only on the rears.)
This was all a couple of years ago so things might have changed, I would like to hear your experiences as mine could do with re-blasting

I used SEM a few months ago to repair a crystal finish bmw alloy. There attitude stinks, but there product was very good.
I am going to get the tuscan wheels done shortly and won't be going to SEM. Romax sounds like a better idea to me. I won't be going back to SEM unless i can't find another place to repair a crystal finish wheel.

I've had wheels done at SEM before and would agree with most of the above sentiments, they are reasonably priced and seem to have plenty of trade work, it would seem that the stuff they turn out is more cosmetic than concours. Having said that I would go back there if it were the wheels on the daily hack that needed doing.
A friend had some anthracite wheels (full set so can't comment on matching) done at Romax and the quality was excellent, if I ever need wheels done for the p&j then I will be speaking to them to see if they can help.
A note on the anthracite finish, it tends to have a lot of flake in it, so getting a perfect match is always going to be a little tricky.
Also if the colour match is close but not absolutely perfect, you can easily get away with only doing 2 wheels on the same side, as it is impossible to see both sides of the car at once and in the same lighting.

I have used SEM for three years now and never had a problem with them. And that is repairing alloys on an Audi S3, S4 and now a set of Sportec rims. Durability of finish is good as is colour matching and although they can be a bit curt on the phone, I forgive them because they are Mackems, can't all be perfect. Reasonable price too considering how much Audi or Chipsaway charge for their work.
Have heard good things about Romax but just a little too far for me to go to TBH.

I use http://www.alloywheelrefurbishing.co.uk/ Fenwick's are all over the north now, they use vans to come out to you at work or home, great job on my wheels.
I have just heard from a friend that had his done, fenwick's say that they are setting up a factory unit to do corrosion work, and powder coating etc, all the stuff they wouldn't do on the vans.
