I tracked my Chimaera there twice. The track is interesting in that it has many different surfaces however most are rough. If you drive hard you will need new tyres by the end of the day. The grassed areas are rutted so not safe run-offs; most run-off areas are tarmac though.
If it's organised by Javelin you should expect very poor marshalling. They sit in their cars and leave their flags in the boot. That said the track is very open so you can see for yourself if there's anything to avoid.
Most track day insurance companies require ATO or equivalent. I don't think Javelin have an ATO licence so if you were hoping to use insurance I would check first.
It's cheap and you get what you pay for. I use Elvington for a bit of fun when my tyres are shot.

Been around Elvington a few times.
Generally it's pretty good, but I can only really echo Bob's sentiments with regards to the surface, it's pretty heavy going on tyres.
It's obviously pretty flat, being an airfield and all, and it's a bit bumpy in places. If you've never been around a cone track before it can be a bit bewildering it looking from the "pit" but once you get out there it's fine and pretty well laid out each time I've been. Also if it rains there can be a fair bit of standing water in places.
But for what it costs you can't complain really. Never gone through a set of tyres there but I've definately taken a few mm's of tread off but always enjoyed it.
Another thing to take into account with elvington is the noise regs, they actively monitor them these days thanks to the locals kicking up dust about it and I've seen cars refused permission to go on track. A mate with an LS1 engined 200sx with a near enough straight through exhaust was seen *modifying* a red bull can to act as a makeshift silencer
I'll gladly go for a jaunt down and around when I eventually get the car back
