mods - i don't know if this is allowed, but if not feel free to remove... i have posted here where most people know me rather than a general section.

WE NEED TO RAISE ANOTHER £300 FOR MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE BY MONDAY!

This Summer myself and the fat bloke some of you know as 'passenger Andy' (my westy passenger from the cobweb run, and serious chain smoker!) are both putting aside a complete lack of physical fitness, and defying inherent laziness to pedal ourselves 286 miles from London to Paris over 4 days. For a seasoned athlete this would be a tough task, think about it; its a really, really, really long way!... for us its going to mean a huge time sacrifice and many saddle-sore miles training just to give a chance of completing this. We are both paying a hundred pounds out of our own pocket to take part in this and we think that doing our bit for charidee and raising as much money as we can for Marie Curie Cancer Care - a truly worthy cause - is more than worth the effort, so please do your bit too and give what you can to support us and them.

Sounds fun i hear you say (followed by rather you than me), but like with all things in life there's deadlines to f*ck up your plans!

We need to hit our first deadline of £1760 by monday or we will loose our place on the ride!

PLEASE DO IT NOW, AND DON'T PUT IT OFF... even if you can't afford much, a quid is better than nowt, and a fiver is even better!

Thanks

Gez and Andy

Thanks very much guys, your generosity is greatly appreciated!

On another note Holmsie, do I remember you talking on Toon Hoon about playing 5 a side? ... I need all the sport and fitness I can get!

Why do it for charity? Why not just for the challenge?

wedg1e, to me that seems like a silly question... we decided to take part in something like this for the challenge - something to get us fit and that would be fun to do, but at the same time if we can raise a fair bit of money (we have a 3 grand overall target) for a really worthy cause very close to both of our hearts, then thats is surely far better than doing it for the challenge alone. Without people doing things like this the Maire Curie would be able to help far fewer people every year.

Aye, but now you're saying that without the extra cash you won't get to ride. If you did it for the challenge, you wouldn't worry about getting the money, if you see what I mean.
In a way it seems sad that without you doing this, nobody would donate to the charity. It's like they're paying to watch a public execution or something...

Thats right, but without doing an organised ride like this, i would have to find my own route, make sure i don't get lost, get accomodation at the right places, carry my own gear sort out water stops and lunch etc...

I know its possible, but its a lot more work than doing it on an organised trip. Getting the rest of the cash isn't that much of a problem, we will be well over target by June - its just getting the money in for this first deadline that we struggled with.

And yeah, nearly everyone that has given to us wouldn't have given that money if we did not do the ride, so i see it as a way of inspiring people to give to a god cause.
