The unnamed garage story continues...

Well now im apparently a liar!!

Obviously i have made a good attempt of cleaning all the oil off my engine, rear spoiler, back of car etc etc, but they want me to drive down to show them otherwise they are not going to do anything. Im not putting another 90 miles on my clock just to show them what a bad job of servicing they do!

He said "Well what do you want me to do?" I said well i just payed £54 for oil which is now ALL over my car so a refund of this would be nice?
No, thats too much to ask of course, he said measure it on the dip stick and they will refund me in liters of oil if i take my car to them?! Well just checked the oil and its well below the lower of the two dots on the dip stick!

I was fuming with him so now he has gone to speak to his boss and will be ringing me back sometime?!

This is the most pathetic "Customer Service" i have ever experienced!!

He said twice to me... "Well try phoning Barclays bank and tell them that you just tried to get money out of the hole in the wall and it didnt give you any, see what they say"?!!??!!

Obviously Lotus will be hearing of this... its pathetic!

I will let you know the final outcome if and when the guy rings back...

Been following this with interest as I think I know the garage you're speaking of and I very nearly did some business with them a few weeks ago. I can't beleive garages will quibble over something like this. I presume they're unfamiliar with the concepts of "repeat business" and "word of mouth." Shame.

Good luck sorting it out. I feel for you.

You really don't want to peruse this on the pages of PH. I know you are feeling hard done by but you're going to feel worse when PH takes the only course of action open to them and sides with the un-named garage.

I'll say it again, there is a long term PHer is no longer a member of this community because he didn't know when to stop bending the rules.

Now what rules am i bending?

Anyway, he just rang me to say they are sending a guy down to me to fill up my oil and make sure everything is working ok. Im glad to see they are doing this but it would have been alot better for the both of us if they had just done this with out all the initial argueing.

There, a guy has just been round appologising and has cleaned up the engine bay and back of the car and suggested that i give it a good soapy wash to get the rest of it off. He also filled up my oil to what it should have been!

What is the best for getting oil off the engine, paint work and spoiler? Someone mentioned "Gunk"?

Either 'Gunk' or AutoGlym do an engine cleaner. Both available from Halfords.

Glad to hear that your garage has come through in the end.

Gunk is definately best on the engine, not sure if its adviseable to apply it to the paintwork though?

Good that its sorted, main problem with these situations is the initial person that you speak to, at the end of the day they really dont want to go to their manager asking for effectively money to put something right thats gone wrong. Its annoying and these things shouldnt happen but unfortunately they do.

Hell no. Use a mild degreaser on the paintwork, or panelwipe (used by most bodyshops) which does a similar sort of thing. At worst use fairly liquid.

sorry to hear of the trouble you've had. can't believe they've asked you to drive down with low oil. Obviously they like doing bottom end rebuilds as warranty work.

Gunk is pretty good for the engine, but any good degreaser will do it, personally I prefer to use a product called "Muc-Off" as it won't harm paintwork, and does the job as well if not better. available from halfords and the like. will do the job on your paintwork too, just be sure to wash it off with pleanty of water.

Thanks guys, i just gave the car a good clean today with my normal shampoo and it seems to have done the trick, so its all pretty much back to normal now!

Now lets see how many miles i can get without another Lotus related problem...
