Went out to the Lincoln this morning, huge 6 inch crack right across the center of the windscreen.

Missus swears it wasn't there when she parked it last night, but it looks like a stone chip has hit it and the snow last night has cracked it. I'm well and truely sick of this vehicle, I fix one problem and it creates another one for me.

Does anyone know if these repair places can fix a crack or does it have to be a new windscreen?

The insurance company is going to love me tomorrow

I'm pretty sure if its a crack that size, it normally means a new windscreen. For small stone chiped windscreen I think they inject a sort of resin glass filler stuff into it and some insurance companies offer this as a free service as its cheaper for them in the long run but something your size may need replacing.

I'm pretty sure if its more than a small chip its a new windcsreen but with most fully comp insurance its only a 50 quid excess for new glass and it doesn't efect your no claims bonus.

I believe the limit is something like 10mm. 6 inch crack stands no chance of being repaired unfortunately.

Glass policy on your insurance should prove invaluable in this circumstance. Claimed for a few in recent years and they've never been problematic.

I'm amazed.

I was expecting to hear - American {sucks through teeth} Can't get one of those, you'll have to find a specialist. Cue hours on the phone trying to locate a windscreen and having to wait till next month for it to arrive in the UK.

I actually got - There's one in stock in Darlington, quickest we can have it fitted is Monday, is that ok.

So hopefully, everything will be hunky dory and they'll make an excellent job of changing the screen - fingers crossed.
