Hi - I need to get my Healey Frogeye's chassis welded to repair this hideous botch, carried out by the PO to allow fitment of a large starter motor. Anyone know of a decent place to get this looked at in the area, preferrably Tyne Valley but further afield is okay.

Thanks

Well, it'll wait a little while if necessary. Access is dreadful though - think I need to pull the engine to do the job properly (something I've neither the space, equipment, or prior experience to do). You can look straight down on the job but it's very tight as you can see:

hmmmm does look quite tight...engine out might be best way to go...apart from that it looks quite straight forward box section!

Do you think it could be done without removing the green grp footwell you see? Thing is, that footwell is part of the one-piece bodyshell...

hmmmm it might be tight...but should be do-able...can you get a picture with something like a coke can in there or a tape measure to get some scale of size...?

Here's a pic with some scale references

And here's the nearside rails, showing what it used to look like. Where the hole is now is where the diagonal brace joining the upper and lower members used to be mounted.

that green section of fibre glass looks very close to where the welding needs to be...it shouldnt be too much of a problem though.

It would be better to see it 'in the flesh' and maybe lifting the engine to do it would not be such a bad idea?

You'd struggle to get an angle-grinder in there...
