Tradition in my household is to enter the house, first footing, in the New Year bearing coal and silver. I have a piece of coal that I have used repeatedly for many years but I don't want to use it anymore, it just doesn't feel right after 4 family deaths during 2006. I feel it didn't bring much in the way of good luck last time around.

Where can I get a new piece of coal?

Garage forecourt would be your best bet today, I suspect, or find someone with a coal fire, and blag a lump.

Err... how about a coal man ? idea

I could send you some "lucky coal" for next year or bring some to the next NE meet I go to (its too late for this year i guess unless you fancy a blast to Hexham area this saf ?)

Next time you're passing through Swainby Bob, nip down our back alley and pinch some bits out of our bunker. If I hear the V8 I'll know it's you. All the best for 2007 mate and hopefully your world will be a lot less upsetting for a good while. Cheers.

Coal or peat to give warmth to the household for the coming year. (I used peat in the end). Silver in the form of lucky money. A 5p piece for each person in the house so that they won't be short of money during the year.

Especially when you live in the wilds like yourself Bob, dirt track roads, open sewers and keeping your livestock in the ground floor of the house.

No but I have been trying to keep my cars in the ground floor of the house. The open sewer would be my scummy next door neighbours

is there a big demand for this?

seeing as it's the north-east forum, would it make sense for me to import coals to newcastle?
