It's been ages since I've been on the track and I'm desperate to give the Mini a damn good thrashing. Just wondering if any plans were in the pipeline for a trackday in 2007.

Do the mini lads (Cone et al) still have a little play at Croft or are we restricting ourselves to H.H.C. trackdays now?

It's a free country, just get yourself on one!

Of course if you don't know who's going to be on track with you, that is a concern. But realistically, you have had track time with the dangerously slow wavey, the (should be)committed speed demon (waveyminimax) and the casual professional (3rtt) plus many others.

I don't think anyone will be offended if you go on your own!

Sorry byff, I’d love to put a trackday on again but there just aren't enough takers and of cause there's always those who promise and then run and hide when it's time to put their money where their mouth is.

Last year I only did one trackday. Wendy and I did the BNG trackday.

I'm not sure when I'll get on track again. HHC days are far too expensive with their ~75% mark-up. I was considering going farther a field. Oulton Park looks good.

Carole gets her new Cooper S in a few days. I’m expecting her to want to track that once it's run in.

I think I would prefer being on track with people I know...

Minimax - Keep on the opposite side of the track
3rrt - keep an eye on the rear view mirror for him every 30 seconds
TVRBob - He might have an advantage on me this time, so will have to see if I can keep up

As for the rest, well, they'll have to keep an eye open for the little grey rocket hehe

I didn't think you would do another one Bob, but any we could join in with would be good. thumbup

Byff, everyone.

Might I suggest a Winter Karting session to get rid of those 'Track Day Blues'.

Rates at Warden are good at this time of the year. Pre-Christmas, after Christmas / New Year?

A good leveler for everyone, you won't have to look in your mirrors or over your shoulder every 30 seconds for me coming round again.

Who's up for it?

Cheers,
Ian.

me too, lets do it!

I enquired on behalf of work, and it's pretty reasonable - about £30 each for a grand prix style event, including a cup presentation.

I think if we do something like that we should have two cups, one for 3rtt who will doubtless kick our arses, and one for the also-rans

how about mid next week?

A long time to wait but we are organising another three days at Croft for next year. The 18th of April, 11th July and late August/early September. This years days have been well attended and enjoyed by all participants and the standard of driving has been commended by Croft themselves. I'm not quite sure where you're coming from Bob with regard to the 'mark-up' statement, as you are aware all our dates have limited numbers attending, almost unlimited tracktime, only 16 cars on track at any one time, open pitlane with instruction and technical support included. I am not aware of any similar days being available for £120! and all the other days that I participate in or am aware of tend to cost from £165 to £250 for a full day. We are having the offer for next year that if you attend two days at £199 you get the third for £100 which works out at £166 per day. This is despite the circuit hire going up again for the third year in a row.
The Karting option in the meantime sounds good and F1 Karting in Newcastle have just been in touch to ask for participants/teams for an endurance event in January. I could post details when they arrive if this is of interest?
Seasons greetings and best wishes to all. Tony

hi tony, I hear you had a meeting with a client/friend of mine yesterday?

a karting event at formula one would certainly be attended be myself in jan, I was also thinking of doing something in dec down at warden, both would be fine with me! particularly since it's likely yo be colder in jan and F1 is indoor IIRC

Sorry Tony, let me explain. Croft trackdays are 15 cars on circuit at one time; yours are 16 cars so I have difficulty understanding why you see that as a benefit. Trackdays are always cheaper weekdays than on weekends. Croft weekend trackdays are £165. Croft don't do weekday trackdays so I draw comparison from trackdays at Oulton from some years back when they charged £165 for weekends, they also ran weekday events at £120. Croft also limit total numbers to 45 cars whereas HHC have many more than 45 cars in the parc ferme. Perhaps not all these cars are book on track but it does give the impression that HHC get more than 45 x £199.

If Corft can run a weekend trackday for 45 x £165, why does HHC need >45 x £199? And that's on a weekday so it should be cheaper.

There is one benefit to HHC days provided you continue to operate the way you have in the past. Open pitlane is a better environment for TVRs. It's not because we like to stay out there, quite the opposite. TVR's on road tyres are only good for 10 mins hard driving so the forced 20 mins that are imposed for public trackdays is hard on the cars and potentially dangerous.

Sorry if you read this as negative. I just speak my mind. If you believe the £199 is justified then please counter my points and then people will get a better understanding of what they get for their money.

The most enjoyable trackdays I have experienced were HHC days. I just have difficulty understanding where all the money goes.

I have just booked my first track day in the 2007 calander. Sunday 1st July @ Croft for £120. This is a Lotus only track day organised by NYLOC (North Yorkshire Lotus Owners Club). We did the same last year at Croft and Cadwell Park. Like a HHC trackday, the on track etiquette is fantastic with everyone giving respect for eachother. I was interested in the HHC trackdays last, but I too thought they were expensive. If we at NYLOC can hire a track for 45 cars and only charge £120 per car. I dont see why HHC couldnt do the same for their customers? They are definatly putting a mark up on these events, hence the offer of 2 @ full price and the 3rd for £100.

HHC, if you do reconcider your pricing structure for these events, I would definatly attend one. Its just at the moment, both NYLOC and LoT (Lotus on Track) give better deals, yet still remain very well run with the highest track etiquette.

We do have to run our trackdays to cover the cost of circuit hire, as we can't afford to subsidise the days heavily. We usually have 25 to 30 cars paticipating on track although we do have a lot more cars present as people come along to spectate. If we take the average and say that we have 27 cars paying £199 that gives a total revenue of just under £5,400. Circuit hire costs £4,500 plus VAT which comes out at a total of just under £5,300! Then we provide instuction and technical support and don't forget my wonderful tea and coffee!! We don't seek to actively make money out of these days and I dream of having 45 cars taking part at £199 each! Rather we offer these as days to improve your driving technique, get familiar with the limits for your car and to spend time with other owners of similar machinery. As Bob rightly says, everyone is up for doing a trackday until the time comes to put their hands in their pockets. We are booking these days and offering them to TVR, Lotus, Noble and sportscar enthusiasts in the North and believe that, for the amount of track time that you get, they do offer reasonable value. I know that Croft run their own days which have a very mixed bag of machinery present, they are run in sessions and they don't have to shell out for circuit hire! If I could have commitment from 105 of you to attend over the coming year at £150 each then that's what I could charge the days at! Ideal Christmas present opportunity!! I hope that this makes things a bit clearer and we would welcome participants for nex year. Best regards, Tony
