Hi all,
We are on a trip up to Newcastle soon, going for an extra day to do a bit of sightseeing, looking for historical and castle type things to do

I fancy seeing at least 1 stone from Hadrians wall, as I have never seen it before
Dunstanburgh Castle looked good
Alnwick Castle is a must

Anywhere else we should consider?
Nowhere in Newcastle though as we are doing that on the Sunday anywya

Bamburgh Castle is worth a look. It's on the coast just North of Newcastle

No it's not private but I have just discovered that it is only open to the public April to October.

Dunstanbrough Castle is lovely but check the opening times for this time of year. IIRC English Heritage own it so check on their site.
Holy Island is beautiful but a bit further north.

You could do Cragside (First house with electricity IIRC) and Wallington hall (Just nice). Very nice walks this time of year, and more importantly great roads to get there.

Also, I think National Trust properties are free after the end of October.

If you want to see one of the best bits of hadrians wall then try Housteads...very well preserved and lots of bulidings, plus the views from the cliff tops are really good...!

Might be a bit nippy to do at this time of year, but a boat trip out to the Farne Islands to see the seals and puffins is great.

Can confrim that it was pretty cold we went up to Seahouses, but couldn't see any boat trips over to Farne, most of the dive/pleasure boats were up on the harbour wall. Fish and Chips were fantastic though lick Think we'll be planning another trip up in the summer too, so we can have a warmer look around

We did, in order...
Alnwick, which was shut.
Bamburgh, which was a walk round the castle grounds and splash in the sea.
Drove past a few other castles, lunch in Seahouses and finale Royal Quays for a spot of shopping hehe
