Has anyone been? Just looking at prices for Saturday evening, £1500 hire, £500 insurance, £250 ambulance. If we could get 25 people, that's £90 each. Not too bad as every other track day coming up that i've seen is a long drive away.

However, never tried the place before, so I don't know what the circuit is like, (layout, speeds, surface, run-off etc.) Also, don't know if 25 people would be interested in doing it.

Just 'testing the water' sonar

It's not that big of a track.

Been to a couple drift events there.

I've done a few kart events on the short circuit and I once walked the full circuit with the same idea as you. This track is very expensive if you compare miles/£ and also safety/£. It's short and very tight with insufficient run-off areas and poor grade surface. Not suitable for TVRs but Eises would be OK. I did the same calculation for Croft circuit and found Croft significantly cheaper.

The problem is that the Teesside Circuit makes a lot of money from karting and so if you hire the circuit you have to cover the losses whilst also paying for staff and medical.

The best thing to do is walk the circuit for yourself. You'll then see what I mean about run-off areas. There are several tight bends that have hard earth banking to keep the cars on track; simple mistakes could be very expensive.

I'm into trackdays, but not at Teesside Autodrome. It is and always has been a Karting circuit. I'll not take my car on there. Its to tight and, as already stated, not enough runoff. And you will runoff if you get any sort of speed up.

Croft is the place to take cars, or Cadwell or Knockhill.....

My opinion, obviously but no....

I know Knockhill have a track day this Sat with the Subaru club, these tend to be very well run and managed.

Can't recall the exact amount and my calculations were based on a full weekend day. The major difference is that you can get 45 drivers to share cost at Croft. On average that's 15 cars on track with open pitlane rules. I think it was around £6k for 8 hrs at Croft versus £5k for 8 hrs at Teesside. But Teesside couldn't take as many cars on circuit so the cost had to be shared between fewer people. All in all Croft is a better safer circuit at lower cost per head.

I agree, I'd definately rather run at croft. Just didn't realise the cost was so close to that of Teeside.

Iain - I think Knockhill is already sold out for non SIDC members this weekend isn't it?

You could do what I have done for the past few years for NEPH. Buy out a session at one of the listed Croft weekend trackdays. Run for 20 mins then rest for 40 mins. That's 6 sessions with the cost shared between 15 people. Great fun because everyone on circuit with you are friends and people who you can trust. Costs about £145/head which is pretty good for a full day event.

That way you can build in break points. 15, 30 or 45 people. So you take 1, 2 or all sessions. If you get 45 people then you can make it open pitlane and really have fun.

I did Teesside Auotdrome in my Elise a few years back - great fun but too scary as not enough run off.

I've done two trackdays at Croft in the Indy this year, March and July.

Brilliant fun for a local cheap trackday. Open pit lane, £75 from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Each time we hired the whole track (mid week) and only had Sevens (plus the odd Elise!).

I'd agree that anything that doesn't do corners or needs a good straight to get up to speed isn't going to like it but for a 7 it's pretty good.

Stands back for abuse!
