Hi guys, just wondering if anyone knows of any riding stables in Newcastle, which offer hacks/treks??

No we don't want any more horses on our roads. Buy yourself a nice Harley; you'll enjoy it so much more.

I can think of better places to ride than on roads! Give me a good open field or such like for a gallop instead!!

there is a riding centre down in Byker somewhere I believe.

How far are you wanting to travel out of town, I'm 8 miles outside of town and plenty of stables round here in the "countryside"

Would have to be somewhere fairly easy to find as I don't really know the area too well yet!

There's a horse riding place near the angel of the north, just off the A1.

When you head South, you'll see a pub on the left hand side, the Bowes Incline (I think it's called), it's just next to there. So you'd take the next exit and keep turning left nuts heading for the pub.

Nearly all their treks are across fields and hardly any on the road.

Try Penshaw Hill Equestrian centre - I rode there a couple of times and they were pretty professional. BHS approved also.

I don't know if they do individual rides out though, I just had refresher lessons (it had been a while!) but I think they do holidays, so it's possible. 0191 584 4828, give them a call.

I can't recommend any in Newcastle, but if you do not mind a trip to Darlington I can recommend Ketton Hall Stables. My wife and daughter ride there at least once a week. Very nice people with a wide selection of Horses. Private rides, lessons and hacks etc.

It's about 7 or 8 miles from Newcastle, in Penshaw village. Very easy to get to, just get on the Western bypass southbound, A1(M), come off at Jn 63 Chester-le-Street, and take the A183 which is the main road to Sunderland.

I don't think they have a website, but you can get their details on the BHS site.

Thanks!

Will have a chat with he who knows what's what and figure out if my terrible sence of direction would be enough to get me there on my own, if not I'll have to sort a date when he can come with me (don't think I'd get him on a horse though!). Shame though as I was hoping it would be something I could do when home alone!

If you're at a loose end and want to even go and have a look, give me a yell. I'm very local (Chester-le-Street). Can't guarantee I won't have tiny people in tow, though!
