Evening all, we're looking at moving from the Durham area, and have had the obligitory 3 valuations.......I just wondered if anyone had experienced good/bad or indifferent service from the following - Halifax, Reeds Rains or Pattinsons?

Obviously if it's no naming/shaming please e-mail me with details, but they've all seemed pretty good when they've been around, but we havn't quite decided who to go with - I think only Halifax and Reeds pay to go on Rightmove, but Pattinsons were going to do the whole paper advertisement thing.....and to be honest you never know how good they are until you go with them!

Alternatively if anyone fancies a Victorian Station Masters house (3 bed) with 7m x 10m garage (complete with 10 double sockets and welding point) on about 1/2 acre plot - nearest neighbour 100m away! For a very reasonable price.........let me know! I'll sort you out a commission free deal!

IME from moving up from the south east...

You could make a killing if you setup an estate agent in the north east that actually did some work, kept promises, didn't employ idiots and wasn't completely useless in every respect.

Out of your list I haven't used Halifax or Reeds.

The above two statements may or may not be connected...

As a general rule I've found most estate agents to be lazy, money grabbing liars. Apologies to any actually honest ones that might read this......... Not to mention that they are more or less unaccountable for anything that might go wrong with a sale/purchase.

When you can stand next to one in their office while they're on the phone holding a conversation between you and the other party and they tell them something completely different to what you just said 2 seconds previous, it makes you wonder what they say when you're not there!.... and I'm talking about one of the above you've mentioned (rhymes with Mattinsons......)

My best experience ( 3 moves in past 5 years) was with Rook Matthews Sayer, and they were far from brilliant...

If at all possible I would cut them out completely!

I am in Oz now and am still trying to sell my house in Newcastle.

We have now onto our third agent.

The first didn't have a clue and we kept asking for actions and he really didn't know what to do.

The second after 4 months we asked what there strategy was to sell the property and they could advise of one!!!!!

We are just in the process of signing our third. But this is not easy. One agent has talen over a week to come back to us. the otehr looks a bit more promising.

These are all reputable agents too. Sorry to put a bad slant on them but they are not worth the money they ask.

They lie with their valuatiosn, they don't push the house when they have it, they are all very defensive when you ask them questions, then when you withdraw your business they are damn right rude.

I am more than happy to give you the names if you need them.

Good luck

I recently pulled my house off the market after having a sole agent in the Coast area handle the sale for 15months ( no clues but the name is "common" for chef if you get my drift) they were absolutely useless, averaging one viewing per month, they couldn`t even get the details of the house right would highly NOT reccomend them
