There have been explosions at ICI in Billingham - apparently the Ammonia plant.

Don't know much about it at the moment, but the advice is to keep doors and windows closed, etc.

In case you didn't know it was at Terra not ICI. FYI - There are now only 1500 ICI employees on Teesside, it really rats me that people always think that all the chemical works on Teesside are ICI.

I'll get my hat and coat and leave now I have said my piece!

For those working for ex-ICI businesses, myself included, I am pleased that ICI are still getting the blame when things go wrong enough to raise issues into the public domain.

Absolutely right Bob, though I dont think Terra would have allowed it to happen if they'd been reporting a national safety award instead of an incident.

It amazed me that every single person interviewed on TV and radio referred to it as an ICI plant. The BP plant in Wales where I started work is still known as BP even though it was bought by ICI in 1980 and has since changed hands many times. Just goes to show, you win some, you lose some.

The time I posted (about an hour after it happened) the only news report said it was ICI - I certainly wasn't going to have a look to find out! Since noone had bothered posting on the thread, I couldn't see the point in updating it!
