TVR servicing in Co Durham
Discussion
Macdonald Racing in Lanchester have looked after my Griff for the past three years and
they have given me good service during that time.
They are Morgan main dealers and know the Rover v8 inside out.
Last time i was in John Macdonald let me have a run out in a new Morgan whilst my car was being serviced ( had to supply my own flat cap and pipe though ).
Just thought i'd mention it in case anyone was looking locally.

I've been working behind the scenes to check them out. I have no personal experience of their workmanship but what I have seen/read/heard has been enough to convince me that they are worthy. The workshop is worth a visit, clean and full of expensive cars. They took my car for a day so that they could inspect it. No charge for this, they simply like to know cars that they look after.
Well my recent purchase could do with a proper look over, so I reckon I'll give them a try.
This one has a 33k 4 litre Chim HC engine out of a '95 car, with 218/220 cam just fitted, so a bit of fettling might be required. She is a bit stuttery when hot. Chassis and brakes have been rebuilt though.
Thanks Bob.

What are their labour charges? Im sure this is the place that quoted me 60 quid an hour plus Vat to do the carbs on my Esprit.. or is 60 quid an hour reasonable and Im a tight ar5ed git??
couger said:It depends how good / bad they are. Garage 'A' charges £60/hr and takes 2hrs. Garage 'B' charges £45/hr and takes 3hrs. I'd choose to pay £60/hr. Don't be influenced by hourly rate, it means nothing. The important thing is how much the job costs.

I went to macdonalds when wanting prices for my cam change they certainly talked a good job. However still no quote 3 months later, admittedly I didn't chase them but when you're looking at spending about £1200 should you have to.If you don't want main dealer then maybe try Falcon I've no experience but I know andy-w rates them
We have to be careful with these discussions. It's OK to suggest that a garage is good but we aren't permitted to say who's bad. You may get a false impression. I say this because people are emailing me with problems they have suffered at indi's and main dealers.
Let's just say no garage is perfect. You need to go in with an open mind and judge what you see.

When my chim was runing bad i used Falcon and they managed to get it sorted out.
Put it this way they had my car for two days with one guy working on it solidly. Steve said he could not charge me two days worth of labour as he felt it was not fair (in the end i was charged 5hrs) and when i saked how much to service a chim he said roughly £260 inc parts, oil and labour.
In fact i might be giving them a call this week to get it serviced just before the MOT!!!
They are a good bunch of lads down there and very helpful...plus the car was spotless when i got it back!!!
