Well there you go. I may have lost my Marlin in unfortunate circumstances, but I have something new.

These pics were taken last weekend at Stoneleigh - I've been too busy driving her to take any today. On top of that she is kinda dirty now

I'm kinda excited today.

maybe

I'm waiting to see what the weather is like tommorrow and and I might head down to Cars In The Park.

It's not a proper petrolhead car mind, it gets > 40 to the gallon Oh and thats still whilst accelerating harder than the Marlin!

GTM ?

Just brought my new pressie up from Birmingham today - knew it would rain , but got her home in one piece, and no dramas. Thank god I don't have to use public transport very often though. Pic on my profile.

I look forward to eyeballing your new machine Stefan.

I have no clue what that is - looks lovely though. Are you going to continue being coy, or do I have to flat out ask you for the spec!!

It's a GTM Libra, built about put on the road about 3 years ago by the membership secratary of the GTM Owners club. It's absolutely spot on as the gent was a excellent mechanic and also someone who took pride in his work.

The original kit was designed to be an Elise beater, so it is light (~700kg), can take the same engine as the Elise (1.8VVC) mounted in front of the rear wheels etc. Mine has the 1.4MPI k-series engine (good for ~100bhp) which is ideal for me both in terms of costs (insurance, tax, petrol consumption) and has more oomph than the now ex-roadster.

I love it! I've been without a nice car for too long - it's a strange feeling to be inside something I actually like

Always liked those cheeky little cars mate. Same noble tradition as Lotus, TVR, Ginetta, etc.

I love this car!

You lucky !

I've wanted one of these for 18 months, one came up on ebay and sold for £6,000 early last year. I fell in love with it. I've had pictures as my wallpaper, I've researched these and know far too much about them, even the design and development. I've read build diaries and searched for months to find a 1.4 within my budget. And now YOU get one???

You !

I'm so unbelievably jealous of you

I was waiting for you to notice the thread

that £6k one was a 1.8 VVC jobie and was sold by the gent who now runs Talon & TeamGTM (if we're thinking of the same one). It was a complete steal as he needed the cash hence the lower value! There was one other sold recently in a similar idea and went for much less money than it was worth. Past that, and not many actually get sold - there isn't that many on the roads by all accounts.

Have you seen one up close and personal? I'm more than happy to come across with it sometime - you're just in Cramlington aren't you? making you sick yet?

It is a superb car mind!

In terms of finding it, yes, in terms of purchasing it, not really. Just lots of hard work, saving up and waiting until the time was right. You wouldn't believe how hard it's been since Christmas not having a car to be proud of and driving round in shitheaps waiting for the insurance to settle!

This is the one that I'm thinking of that sold on ebay: (yes, I still have all the photos from the auction, I'm that in love with it)

I've been very up close and personal with one - I was taken round Oulton Park in a red 1.8 Spyder by another PHer (took me and a mate about 5 minutes to persuade the guy from GTM to let me go round). That was really fun, although slightly out done by the next car I went in - a 200bhp Westfield which was just mental

You have to take me for a drive in it! I'm so unbelievably annoyed with you though for getting one. How much is this one costing you to insure? The guy from GTM at Oulton Park reckoned I could get insured for about £750, although I think he was just making numbers up in his head. I want one sooooooo much How much did it cost you? I have way too many questions to ask...

yep, that car was parked next mine at Stoneleigh. The Libra is an entirely different beast to the Spyder from what I can tell either way.

As for insurance, MSM have done me a huge favour. They know fine well that the fire which wrote my last one was caused by the performance "specalist" and by talking on my behalf to the insurers have managed to maintain the policy, change the vehicle and from tpft to fully-comp (not risking anything with this one!). To that end, all I have to pay is the difference between the policies (about £160 or so). I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending www.msminsurance.co.uk. Dave Spragg (the manager / owner AFAIK) is a fantastic gent. It's just a shame I only speak to him when I need am upset / need something!

As for £750, it would cost me that to insure the car now with a different insurer - I rang around a few places to get an idea.

Send me an email and I'll arrange a visit Don't expect a proper hoon mind - I'm been exceptionally cautious at the moment - it has awesome levels of grip and I'm terrified loosing the back end!

Stefan, I've got some really bad news for you. Yellows a very gay colour, everyone will think you're gay if you drive that. And those K series engines, VERY prone to HGF, better watch out. And of course kit cars are unsafe in accidents. Crumple like a coke can. And no modern amenities like air con. Boots not very big either. and the interior door handles, just bits of old wire!

To be perfectly honest, its just a really crap car, but don't worry, I'll give you £1000 to take it off your hands and dispose of it properly to make sure no accidents can happen. Go on, you know its the right thing to do
