So should we put one on the calendar? How about Tues 23rd or Wed 24th.

Plus there are no other day out runs planned. Does anyone want a days driving, such as the trip to Holy Island?

I know I didn't do so much last year, due to the effects of 'baby tummy' but I'm keen to do a few days this year.

Comments welcome

I made the change from monthly to bi-monthly because attendance was slipping toward the back end of 2005. Perhaps we could do Shafto's bi-monthly and go for a run every other month.

Now don't take this the wrong way but you NEPHers don't normally partake in the runs I organise. I have shifted my runs nearer to the NYPHers because I can get lots of interest from those folk. I would be more than happy to organise runs in our region if I thought people would attend.

Show of hands please. If I organise NE runs would you join in?

Hi Bob,

I would dearly love to come along to all the runs and meetings, but have been away so much since November of last year, it just hasn't been possible Shaftoes is right on my doorstep. In fact, its so close, my car isn't even warmed through if i go there directly.

I'll try and get to some of the summer runs, but my schedules always seem to be out of step with the meetings etc

Hope to see Y'all soon.....

It just so happens that I am away on business that week. How about a 'Spring Bank Holiday Hoon' 29th May?

In somewhat typical fashion, now that I have money to play with, I don't have a suitable car.

Hopefully that'll change in the next month or so and then I'll start coming on runs again

Hi Bob
I would be there if my shift patern allowed,
I was looking forward to the cob web run this year, but as luck would have
it I had to work......
A run I was thinking of doing was coast to coast.
Starting at say Saltburn then to richmond then across to the lakes ending up on the coast on the irish sea,
as you can tell no set route yet just an idea.
If there was any intrest there could be diffrent starting points and meet up with some PHrs from the west coast
there imput would be good for the route and final meeting place on the far side.

Or failing that I could just drive aroud for hours looking for shafto's finding new road again and again

I can tell you the route already I do it from my place just off the A69

Up over the A686 to Alston, Hartside, down to Penrith towards Keswick. Hit the lakes and drive towards Keswick, turning onto backroads and going cross country towards SellaField, looping back across Wynose and Hardknott passes into Ambleside and up Kirkstone pass to Ullswater and back to the A686... 300 odd miles of pure automotive heaven!

Phil, it was nice to meet you last Shafto's. This coast to coast idea may be too many miles. I assume you mean for us to come home again, coast to coast to coast. The norm is to drive interesting roads, fast ones and curly ones for about 4hrs with a few stops thrown in. My problem is I know many fabulously windy empty country roads but they're all in the North York Moors or the Dales and this appears to be too far south from the centre of NEPH populous.

hi bob, yes thinking about it it is a bit far,
but I think I will still do it,best not organised, just see the weather for the next day is good and go,
with my luck if planned it would rain or snow, I'm the same as you tend to head out to the dales and the moors for a drive, but there must be some good road up around kielder/northumberland.
was good to meet you all the other night and enjoyed the drive home how did we all get to the first lights and all go in three diffrent directions when we were all heading the same way ? red arrows style

kielder is twisty but mostly flat with lots of Sunday drivers, two dimensional driving is only half the fun. People rave about kielder but in my opinion it's no match for a good run through the undulating NY Moors.

There are some nice roads around High Force, I planned a NEPH run there earlier this year but the weather was awful so we didn't do it. I've still got that one mapped out ready. A good after lunch blat.

Blakey ridge on the North York Moors has an exelent pub called the white lion with a camp site next to it for the walkers so all can drink. Its in the middle of nothing . Beer is 'Mmmmmmmm why is my head hurting', food good & home made, roads must be a 7 or 8. May be worth a look?????
If you want pickies i can post them?

Been there done that, Cobweb '04. It's too far south for NEPHers. It such a shame too because the exquisite little back roads in that area like Rosedale Chimney Bank and Buttertubs Pass in the Dales are heaps better than the flat country lanes north of the A66. I've been fighting this battle for years; NEPHers don't do runs this far south.

.....or do they now?????

I'm right up for the moors. Surely the reason for the get togethers is for a damn good drive out. Its gotta be a bonus to stick another 20 miles on the day
The roads are just crying out for a bunch of cool cars to use them as they should be.

Flat country lanes north of the A66?? The North Pennines? What about the B6277, B6278 & A686? surely these are some of the finest roads in the country! Very open in places, every type of bend you can ask for, lovely flowing sections and very very little traffic. These should not be mistaken for the type of roads on the way to Kielder (although if you go past Kielder and onto the B6357, thats another matter..)

Point taken, my knowledge north of the A66 is limited. I do think Kielder is overrated but there are many roads I have yet to experience in the area. I find steep banks with hairpin bends as exciting as flowing twisty country lanes and a drive should have both of these plus some fast open roads. The only interesting steep twisty roads I have found in the area are north west of high force, B6277 Alston to Barnard Castle for example. I'm sure there are lots of nice roads that could be routed together to give us a good run out. A689 Crook to Alston then B6277 to Mickleton then head north or east, that sort of thing. A sensibly placed route for the NEPH populous should be in within the Gateshead, Brampton, Appleby, Richmond oval. I really don't know this area but looking on a map there does appear to be a lot of minor country lanes.
