I'm frequently out and about after dark having a bit of a progressive drive. I've often thought that it would be useful to have a transport type cafe where PH's could meet up for a chat.

Does anyone know anywhere that is 24hr in the area?

I've worked nights for a few years around Newcastle and I've never come across anywhere that's fully 24hrs. Closest I've come across is a bakery in Jesmond just off Osbourne Road called Mistletoe bakeries that sells stuff all night. It's only small, only sells cold stuff and no good for meeting up with people, although the taxi drivers manage ok.

Only other place is Greggs which opens at 04:00 in Newcastle airport or the burger/cafe's that stay open till 02:00 for the nightclub people in Newcastle city center.

If you do find somewhere, let me know.

Birtley cafe on the A1 is open 24 hours, me and Mrs Couger sometimes go there for a cuppa at some unheard of times

There's an American style diner on the A19 (southbound) between the two Hartlepool turn-offs. Not sure wheather its 24 hours but maybe worth looking into?

Stevie

I've passed this in the early hours and it appeared shut. Will have a nosey next time I am out and about. Possibly tonight.

I heard that big billy's bait box in four lane ends is open 24hrs, he flogs half stotties round the clock to the factory workers round benton park road...and they're pretty nice too. don't go there if you're at all concerned about hygiene though

Where abouts in Four Lane Ends is that? I looked after FLE Metro station and I never saw it, not unless you mean that little caravan thing that's parked on the corner?

memory is foggy but as you go down benton park road from four lane ends metro towards the coast there's a dodgy second hand car dealer on the right...about a half mile down from the actual FLE mini roundabout thingy..and if you turn in there towards the estate at the back, halfway down is the famed bait box...

they do a half stottie with a 1/2 can of beans, 4 black pudding, 4 rashers of bacon, 2 eggs and 3 hash browns luuuvverly!

ps it's got to be 4 years since I went there though!

The American Diner on the A19 closes early, about 10 pm I think. I think NE Minifinity used it as a meeting point just the once.

24 hrs service.....

so what time do they stop serving the 'all day breakfast' ??

and whilst we are on the subject, ask them how their 'hot cakes' are selling.

Tesco at Kingston Park?

Open 24 hours (well, mon to fri!), a little cafe at the back and you can pick up a few bits of shopping so your wife/girlfriend/partner etc can't complain!

Washington/Birtley services do a good Hot Chocolate and is sometimes frequented of a late Saturday night by oneself and LoopyJ with maybe the odd compatriot aswell.( Oh, and the odd biker or two in the summer). Southbound seems to be the better bet in our opinion, comfy seats etc..
