Took the lad karting last weekend at Warden Law. He sat through the induction, answered his questions correctly, then had 15 mins of following an instructor round the track. I think he had a dodgy kart as it stalled on him at the end of the main straight, either that, or he used the accelerator and the brake together.

They then had a 15 min blat around the track and I'm pleased to say, he's pretty good. Needs to leave the braking a little later but he's showing no fear. His mother showed her fear, as he tore down the back part of the circuit towards the hairpin, his mum shouted, Oh my god, turned and ran into the hut .

Only span it once, but he said the kart had stalled again and that spun him round. It was very wet and I was expecting him to spin more than that but he was drifting it like a pro...ah, that's my boy!

Not bad for an 8 year old, but thankfully, he's still too young to race with us on karting days, he has to be 16. Thank godness, can't have him showing us up eh?

I'm entering him in the next junior race in February to see how he handles the competition.

The younger you start, the better. Hope he does well, best of luck!

Forget about all that 4 stroke stuff, both father and son could have a fantastic day out in the proper kit. I can thoroughly recommend this company: www.karttraining.co.uk/

Was it the introduction session for the Warden Law Junior Race League that you entered your son in ( www.kartingnortheast.com/karting_05.htm ) ?

I was thinking of entering my 9-year old son but was under the impression that they had to be at least 10 years old before they could enter ?

Cadets can race from 8 years old. Its the first step on the 'proper' ladder, IMO.

Yes, that's the one.

Their karts have adjustable seats, so even little people can drive them.
