Would anyone be up for a blast down York Dragstrip this year when the weather gets better? All you need is a helmet (borrowed off a biker mate?) and you're sorted. Anyone can race on a RWYB day. TVR v Porsche v Ferrari v Lotus etc. Its a cheap and legal way to race.

As ever, I would love to do this. An event was planned for 2005 but didn't happen for some reason.

If I still have it, I'll be doing it.

Either York or Elvington, I'll be looking out for 2006 dates.

Its always an eye opener at the dragstrip too cos we think our TVRs are quick until ya see a 1950s Ford Pop or summat running a 7 or 8 second quarter. And if ya like the sound of V8's..........

Went to my first meet at Santa Pod in 1970, and been a big fan ever since.

Was'nt born until 1972 but I've still been going to the drags for about 16 years, so not quite as long as you mate. I've done the RWYB's in mk2 Escorts, 3 ltr Capri etc but not in me Chim yet. I'd be interested in finding out what time I could get.

Any idea of suggested dates yet? April/May? How often are the events on?

I'd be up for this, I'm going to try and get as many events in as possible this year.

Mrs GMan has bought me a Drift day with Drift Academy for Christmas so looking forward to that too.

Does'nt look like the dates have been arranged for 2006 yet so we'll just have to keep our eyes open for a RWYB.

Im a regular at york and always up for a bit of racing, All i know about the dates is that the first event is easter weekend. The second event will be about a mounth after that and the last couple of years the second event has been the 0-60 challange so if you want to know what your cars will do it in then this is your event. Last time i managed a 4.2s with my 4ltr but if i ready for this one im looking for 3.5s with my new engine (if my oil pressure doesnt drop and bend my crank like it did before and taking some H beam rods with it too)
Its still hurting even now!!

Ouch, I bet it is. I bet you've shocked a few boy racers in your time with that jeep.

Hi Guys,

Saw this thread from earlier in the year. I'd like to try having a go down a strip - would like to do the Austec day, but can't make it. Also, York would be a hell of a lot closer than Santa Pod!!.

Is anyone else planning anything??

Stuart.

Hey Stevie.... Just looked at the dates, how about the 30th April meet with the free 0-60 challenge? Head down and back in a day, good crack!
Not sure whether I'd quite get the "scalp" of a chim 500 or not but it'd be fun trying....

Anyone else?

Stu.

30th April is the PF weekend. I'll have a look at the dates, see what's available.

That would be cushty but there probably would'nt be a very good turnout if there's many going to PF. Shame that cos a 0-60 challange would be a right laugh.

York dragway has a reputation for having a bit of a poor surface (never been parsonally), Elvington is more expensive to run at, but the cars are typically a bit more "high class" as the £50 to run seems to keep the rif-raf out Also at Elvington there is the option to do a 1.25 mile "flyer" and have your top speed recorded, nearest thing to a northern Vmax innit

Dates for Elvington RWYB this year are

Round 1 : April 9th

Round 2 : July 2nd

Round 3 : September 10th

Think these dates are subject to confirmation, though April 9th is definately on. I will be attending dependant on weather, car is in storage and won't be coming out is there is a sniff of salt or rain.

2nd of July looks good for me.

I must admit that I did like the extra length that Elvington has to offer and the fact that last time I ran there, I recorded the highest top speed
