what about the new venue that you all visited last month, can't remember the name?

Parkhead country hotel, thats the one.

The Parkhead was (IMO) an excellent place, with superb grub, and friendly staff.
Not sure whether there'd be enough parking space if they are busier at lunchtime, that's all.
Other than that, fine by me.

Thanks folks but I'd sort of hoped for a bit more interest. Is this something NEPHers want to do?

I'd be more interested in a Saturday run out as opposed to an evening - I could bring the Marlin on a weekend

Why go to a pub for lunch though, why not a cafe somewhere? We could even try for somewhere like Hartside cafe

I would like to meet up and Saturdays are definately better for me but as you know, I won't make many of them. Therefore I feel I shouldn't really be making suggestions. However, anywhere in that area is fine by me.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but you're probably the only one who thinks a cafe would make a suitable venue. What's wrong with a pub? Cafes are never out of town and I can't think of any that cater for drivers.

The venue must be out of town in order to be sure that there will be no kids or chavs wandering past the carpark.

Saturday lunchtimes at pubs just doesn't seem right to be, just the way I am. There are plently of cafe's around that would be ideal (I can think of 2 immediately up this end of the world) but know very little about Durham area...

Another possibility would be the Hotel/Pub on the roundabout at Chilton (A689/A167 crossing point). Easy access from Junction 60 A1.

I'm working down in York at the moment, so I'll try to check out over the weekend.

My vote goes to lunchtime meets, and a run out, even better.
Some nice roads up near Barnard Castle or Richmond, or we could go up the A68 way for the more northern guys. ( Now there's a super fast- driving road. )

Same here, I would be a first timer and I'm not too familiar with Durham area - so I'm not the best person to make suggestions. I'll make a point of turning up for at least one meet just to check out the NEPH crowd. Probably never see me again though

Welcome

Where abouts in Newc are you?

I'll be up for a Saturday meet Bob...can never make the monthly ones at Park Head (even though its spitting distance from home) as I'm at Uni during the week

I don't really know the Durham area, probably the furthest south I can recommend is the Church mouse at Chester Moor, but that's still too far north for the Teeside crowd. We had a blast out to find a nice pub the other weekend, but after driving round for ages, rejecting pub after pub, grumbly tummies and grumbling heads forced us into a pub near Sedgefield.

It reminded me of scenes from Deliverance - all eyes were on the "strangers"

Still, I'm trying and to be honest, it doesn't matter where or when, i'll probably make it.
