Track days at Croft
Discussion
These guys were advertising at Croft on Sunday

I noticed on their leaflet that they run open pit lane days. I thought I remembered someone on here saying that open pitlane had gone since MSA regs came in or something.
I have no idea if these guys are any good I just thought some preferred the open pitlane format. Not sure how these are doing it if the regs don't allow it?

It looks like they get around the 'open pit' rule by getting people to join their club. Club events are exempt from this rule. The price is good but I can normally negotiate a better price for our group. The only issue I have with open pit is that we no longer get the track to ourselves. The advantage of this exclusivity is that we know and can trust all the other trackers in our group. Some, including myself believe it is worth sacrificing open pit for the knowledge that those around us are sensible.
Yeah peace of mind rather than a piece off your car
I knew I'd seen someone posting on here about open pit lane but couldn't remember who.
I looked on the website and you can see who's booked on a particular day. I noted a tuscan booked for Croft and wondered if it was anyone on here.

tvrbob said:True to an extent, but at the end of the day, if you want to do more than one trackday a year (and I appreciate that there are those that don't), then you are going to be lumped into a group with other people that you don't know - and even last year we had the Mini's in our group (who were all wonderful).

My only reservation about open pit lane, especially at circuits like Donington and Croft, where the pit exit is on the racing line, is that people don't look before joining the track. I was at Donington last Friday with an instructor, and lost count on the number of wrecked laps we had avoiding people just wandering onto the circuit in front of us!

At Croft they marshal drivers out and will not permit pit exit once there's a car past the Start/Stop line.
I was at Croft today, my son doing the Ginetta experience and we all hade a go in the new Caterham's on their slalom track. I asked about their policy on sessioned track days because the rule is (apparently) advisory only. They said they are starting to try open pit again depending on how many trackers there are.
