Anyone had their car ceramic coated ? is is it better than ppf ?

Any recommendations locally would be appreciated. Just about to get a new car delivered , and as it is black want to prevent light scratching and swirling etc

Cheers

Had many of mine coated with Gtechniq as part of a full 3/4 day detail/paint correction straight from new. Very good at making car easy to clean and the latest top of the range product offers great swirl protection, but will still make sense to keep away from poor washing habits. If wanting to keep the car looking better than day delivered for years, then this could be £800-£1k well spent.
Will not protect against stone chips like ppf. Personally not a fan of ppf as unless done superbly well can look a right mess. Also no matter the quality, imo you cannot get the level of deep gloss of pure paint (although ceramic coating on top of ppf will help somewhat).
No affiliation but I’ve trusted my cars to DDB detailing in North Shields and won’t let anybody else touch them.

Think the polishing company at Cramlington does this or similar - give them a shout anyway for some advice?

I have ppf on the front of mine and gtechniq on the whole car, as said before the ppf protects against stone chips and the coating helps with washing and prevents the minor light swirls. Well worth the cost to keep the car looking is top condition, DDB do mine as well.

I’ve had both PPF and ceramic before and found, if the PPF is done well, nothing comes near it. Ceramic needs redoing every so often and doesn’t protect the black paint enough. Small swirls and light scratches will still develop. So much easier with the PPF, it either heals or you rip it off and get it refitted, then it looks new again.

Has anyone used a GTechniq approved detailer around Newcastle other than DDB? I am finding it difficult to see through a booking with them (it's been postponed twice now).

These have a very good reputation, although I've not used them myself (yet)

This thread actually reminded me that I needed to pay them a visit to get an idea about what they could do with my Evora and Clio and I’m pleased I did. He certainly knows his stuff and I was fortunate enough to see close up what lengths they go to to get a mirror finished. Whoever’s GT3 I saw there is going to be blown away

my cars (Sagg, M2, T5 and TT) are all, Gtech + Armour fend
- c/o DDB... they are simply the best, hence the waiting, but its well worthwhile. Their attention to detail is just amazing

Awesome name for a detailers biggrin and a great looking work.

I went to TDI yesterday and was very happy with the service and results. Thanks again for the tips.

I don't mind waiting for good service of course. But not responding to communications and postponing last-minute, when plans have been made to make myself available, is not ideal.
