hi guys.

I'm spreading my net around the whole of the north, but can anybody recommend a company who can strip the paint off an MGB GT body shell. I'm looking at options of media blasting or dipping, I've sent enquires to Rix (Birtley) and Jalna (Middlesbrough) without response, but looking for other suggestions or options.

Cheers

The chap who runs Heritage Classics might have some idea as he is into restoring old classics, he is at the Riverside Middlesbrough.

just watch for panel distortion with blasting - I had a Mk1 Mini shell done by a firm in the NE via a third party.

I'd fitted new doors skins but had to re skin both when it came back due to rippling.

As an update, I called in to see the set-up at Rix Blasting in Birtley (well Washington really) and was really impressed. Nice clean professional set-up and a proper enthusiast too.

The MG shell is booked in for mid November thumbup

The body shell arrived back from Rix Blasting who have done a fabulous job, really pleased with their work which has shown the shell to be generally sound but with multiple areas of rot in all the usual MGB places. Let the repairs begin....

Hi, I know this thread is a little old, but I am based in the North East too and I will be considering using Rix blasting for my own MGBGT project as they seem to have done a very good job here. I was just wondering what underbody treatment / paint was applied (and by whom) after the blasting and repairs - and more importantly, has the shell remained rust free since? Thanks.

Firstly, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rix, they really did a first class job on the shell, they were careful where needed whilst not compromising on the extent of the blasting.

I'm still working on the shell, doing little bits as life frees up spare time, and even though the shell is painted over with a normal primer by Rix it's stayed rust-free in the garage over the last 2 years.
