I've been lead to believe there are speed camera and possibly lane monitoring cameras in the new South bound tunnel. Can anyone confirm this and also if the same exists in the old North bound tunnel too?

Cheers,
M.

Yes, both tunnels have speed cameras in. I've got a friend who was recently ticketed for doing 50ish south-bound. I've not heard anything of lane cameras though - I'd still be careful

Thanks, as I thought.

The North bound tunnel has a 30mph limit which I stick to but always surprised by his many cars overtake me!

Southbound tunnel's not that new these days Mark! Showing your age I think... wink
As far as I am aware there are no cameras in the Tyne tunnel, and there are none showing on any published maps currently. There's usually someone sitting in the outside lane so it's not often you can actually go faster than the speed limit in any case.
Cheers!

I was led to believe that the tube tunnels are in fact a private road and therefore not ticket-able?
