just got a new (to me) car with DAB radio - the reception seems patchy, with lots of drop outs. I dont know if this is a local recption issue or a car aerial problem.

Can anyone confirm whether or not DAB is generally reliable on tyneside?

Hi my first post on here so hello, I have two dab house radios and live in north west Durham and the reception is absolutely rubbish with only a handful of stations that work and the rest say off air when tuning to them ..... The first radio 📻 was bought about ten years ago and nearly all the stations worked, so I'm not sure if it's a reception problem or what but it's rubbish, both radios now have the dab function turned off

I find it generally ok but unreliable when it's really cold. It's a lot flakier in SWMBO's A6 than my Golf however, even in better weather.

No problems around the Morpeth area but Alnwick is particularly bad.

BBC stations seem fine even in quite remote areas. I listen to Talksport as well and that does drop out sometimes.

I am suspecting its an aerial issue, as I note fm reception is a bit patchy also

I don't use DAB. I've tried many times but I've never been able to get decent reception in any car I've driven with it. Last time I tried was in the Cramlington area and I got silence a lot more than I got reception.

Anywhere in population centres OK. anywhere in the hills or past Hexham..stE!! But then again. Since the Govt sold off the airwaves and made us all switch to digital from Analogue so it could make stloads of money we all now have to suffer with Poorer reception and signal loss because of narrow bandwidth channels... You struggle to even receive radio 2 when you take to the hills of Northumberland.... Another Govt money making scheme where rural folk suffer!!!

managed to get solid DAB reception in morpeth, but not much joy in our part of newcastle. BBC radio a bit patchy on the A1 towards Alnwick and on the A19 round easington and hartlepool.

I suspect that the fiat radio is just not as good as the subaru I had previously, never had a dropped signal in that car

I've found DAB to be better than FM - pretty much everywhere. Even up the North Tyne at home
