... of why the North East is the pit's when it comes to Classic car culture, for pete's sake we can hardly manage the likes of this in the height of summer, never mind the middle of winter !

I certainly wouldn’t say that the north east is ‘in the pits’ when it comes to classic car culture, I’d agree the scene certainly isn’t as big as other parts of the country but it is definitely growing! Last year, apart from Corbridge, every show I attended was bigger than in 2016.
An issue I see is the lack of young people with a passion for classic/retro cars. As a 20 year old I have met very few people a similar age at shows in the 2 years I have been going. Other parts of the country have entire clubs dedicated to the younger enthusiasts, possibly something similar needed up here. I’ve toyed with the idea of setting up a Facebook group for younger enthusiasts and arranging meets but until I own something older myself I don’t really think it would work, although before the shows start up again I’m hoping to get something so maybe I’ll go ahead with that idea.
I do my very best to make people aware of different events happening in the north east.
Last year I started this thread: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... and I plan to keep on posting this year, including smaller meets and events rather than just shows.
I’m also an admin (pretty much run) on The North East Classic & Retro Car Club https://m.facebook.com/groups/1053645011333456
I also have my Facebook page, George’s Car Photos where I share my photos of all the events I attend and let people know about upcoming events https://m.facebook.com/GeorgesCarPhotos/
My absolute love is classic cars and I’ll try as hard as I can to grow the scene in the north east, obviously I’m not claiming to be doing it single handily but I’m doing the most I can!
I doubt we’ll ever have a 1000 Car winter show but if someone can get something arranged I’m sure more than 100 would attend a New Years show, it’s great to see the scene growing and I really hope that continues this year.
Out of curiosity, are you a classic owner yourself and if so what do you own, I may well have a photo of it if you got to some shows last year.
And to finish off with here’s a few of my favourite photos I took in 2017
Entering Corbridge Classic Car Show - although a smaller turnout than last year still an amazing show.
Entering Whitley Bay Classic Car Show - a young lad in an old Civic. Around 10 or so members from the Facebook group JapAttack attended, it was lovely to see some younger owners and Japanese cars at a show.
Leaving Wynyard Classic Car Show (October) - my photo of the year that summed up how the Wynyard show has grown so rapidly and the huge variety on show. R34 GTR owned by Liam from The Downshift Channel (YouTube), a diesel swapped MK1 Jetta and a Trabant all in the same photo makes it a special one to me. There was also a 993 Carrera RS at the show!!
