Anyone had a paintwork ceramic coated?

In principal sounds like good protection , depending on cost..

Wondering if front end is maybe better with that clear wrap.. Or if this is worth looking at?

Try DDB Detailing https://www.facebook.com/DDBDetailing/ in North Shields they are Gtechniq accredited detailers, have a chat with them and they will advise on the best protection to use. I already had PPF installed on the front of the car when I bought it but wanted the rest of the car protecting too.

I had the GTechniq C0v2 for the gloss and water repellency. G1 glass coating and C5 wheel armour. The protection seems to prevent the dirt sticking to the car and makes it so easy to wash and keeps the car looking spot on. Wasn't cheap but would definitely have it applied again.

As above really. Dave at DDB applied a Gtechnic coating to our S3 and it's been great. The dirt just falls off with a bit of water.

I'm currently getting my C63 Edition 507 (64 Plate) detailed by iDetail in Hartlepool, the lad who owns it (Jonathan) came highly recommended and after reviewing some of his previous work I pulled the trigger.

I dropped it off Monday and I've since flown back to work and wont get to see the car until I'm home in September but Jon is keeping me updated on WhatsApp with pictures etc...

After the cars Stage 2 enhancement detail it'll be getting coated with GYEON Quartz MOHS+ so looking forward to seeing the results.

If you can afford to do both, then wrapping, at least the front, is worth it. The coatings are great but they will give no protection against stone chips.

Thanks for info and feedback guys, I have been in touch with Ddb detailing, hoping to pop in once I get some work done on the car in next few weeks.. It's black! So dirt falling off sounds great!
What sort of money are we looking at?
I think I would like to do the front nose cone with clear wrap maybe too..
Just got car, but previous owner was an ex car detailing business owner, so car is in amazing condition, which I would like, hopefully to preserve !

DDB have just done my 458 & X5M in last couple of weeks with Gtechniq. Must say very impressed and would certainly recommend. Looking at up to £1200 per vehicle if want the works.
Personally never been a fan of ppf. No matter how well applied, the paintwork never seems as glossy and deep. For what it cost for a front bumber/Bonnet respray I wouldn't bother with it. The ceramic coatings make the paintwork look mega but it does seem to attract water spotting on washing more than ever, so a quick 2 minute go over with detail spray required at end of wash to get it back to good as new.

I've had a few cars done and don't think I'll bother again. Gtechniq didn't last anywhere near as long as I thought it would, then I had my M3 done with Nanolex and although extremely impressive when first done the beading only lasted 3 months, obviously the coating is still there but I don't see a great deal of benefit over a decent wax or sealant. If you rarely wash your car then I can see the appeal, but if you like keeping them clean then a good sealant is just as good imo. None offer protection against stone chips and from what I've seen they offer little protection against swirls.

It could also cost a lot less as I went for a full decontamination multi stage polish and full gtechniq black 7 year, exhaust, engine bay, glass, full interior protection, etc. If your cars not a daily or not used in bad weather then you could in all probability go for one of the less extreme gtech coverings. I think the current state of paintwork will also impact choices. Hopefully it turns out great no matter what you choose!

In reality you get a solid 18 months to 2 years of protection.
This means its very easy to wash and dry and resistant to wash marring.

Sorry if this thread has finished but I would like to add my two pennies worth. Gtechniq Crystal serum light + exoV3 will last 3-5 years depending on maintenance washing chemicals there after. If you carry on using PH Neutral shampoos and snow foams it will last the allocated time. We sell it a lot from our company Slims detailing and I'm trained on it. This has been on my Dads truck for 18 months and still going strong

Waste of money, but at least I got a full polish before it went on.

There is maybe some protection from swirl marks appearing, but they still do overtime.

Yes, water seems to sheet off, but paint gets dull and you are told not to wax over it. I find the only way to make it look good is to use a detailing spray, so waste of money having the coating.

Doesn't keep the paint clean, still have to do a normal two bucket wash every week with a lambs wool mit, dry thorougly and use a detailing spray. A clay bar every few months also. Jet washing or foaming alone just leaves dirty streaks all over.

I think it may produce a slight ripple on the paint surface too, but that could just be Porsche paint.

Certainly no stone chip protection (which none of them claim to give).

Bugs are still a pain to remove, but like I said there may be some protection from swirl marks where you have to rub that extra bit to get them off. I am very careful when cleaning, but still have some swirls that show up in the sun light. I can't tell if these would be worse without the coating of course.

Nothing can protect from swirl marks but a decent coating does help reduce the marring

It shouldn't be dull. If it is dull then I suspect either the paint itself is bad, the detailer didn't do a good job or the coating as been damaged by mistreatment.

Ceramic coatings don't magically keep paint clean.
They help keep it cleaner than they would if otherwise unprotected.
Likewise you will still get watermarks if you spray your car or snowfoam it without washing and drying - especially on a black car! You can probably see the steam from where it's evaporating off the surface when it's warm.

I coated my car with Gtech crystal serum light in January and I have only had to wash and dry it for the duration.c
I clayed some parts of it once but that was after I painted my brake calipers and some lacquer went on the paint.

The coating will not apply a ripply effect to the surface. That suggests the panel is dented or has been previously repaired poorly. This could also cause the paint to be dull.


Not having a personal attack at you. I'm just explaining what a coating is expected to do.
