Happy New Year and Hi to the good PH'ers of the North East. Hopefully some of you might be able to help me?

Next week I'm due to start a new role based in Newton Aycliffe (large new manufacturing site, no prizes for correct guesses) and due to the 90 mile journey, will mean it's sensible for me to find somewhere to stop over frequently in the local area. I've called a few B&B's in the area offering B&B £30/night and will see if there's a more attractive corporate rate set up anywhere else, but realistically, I'm looking 'mates rates' for a comfortable room with secure parking, where I can hopefully base myself fairly frequently for less.

I'm a long time PH'er (actually did a similar thing a few years ago working down in the Midlands), a professional (office based) clean living 50 year old married man, hopefully able to find a local gym. Happy with shared houses with other professionals and would like to have internet access to facetime/skype home and bills included.

On occassion, I'll plan to be up in/on one of my toys (1000cc superbike, 911 Turbo or Supercharged BMW Roadster) if there's any weekday evening meets or run outs???

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Congratulations on your new job! The company I work for have won a contract to supply panels to the new company (no prizes for guessing who it is) that you will be working for.

Are you predominantly looking for a B&B type place to stay? Or would you be looking more towards a house rental?

I'm a local lad, so if you need any advice on any of the areas in the vicinity I'd be happy to give you any pointers.

Edit:
Just re-read your post and see that you are looking for a house share rather than a rental.

Hi Mark, thanks for your reply.

Yes, looking for a room rather than a house rental. I'll drop you a PM with my mobile and e-mail, might be good to catch up directly that way or over a pint? Advice over best areas/commuting hot spots to avoid would be most welcome.

Had a look at a nice farmhouse B&B near Norton today, so will use that initially as a base. I'm a very light sleeper, so can't do noisy places.

Any recommendations for a local gym would be great. I tend to focus on CV/stamina training rather than free weights/bulk, but know how busy they get in the New Year.

No worries, happy to help where I can.

Theres a few places local to where you will be working that should suit your needs, there will definitely be somewhere closer than Norton too I imagine.
May be worth you asking Hitachi if they have any links with hotels in the area which provide them with special rates? I would be very surprised if they don't?

There's a few gyms local to your workplace too, from independent gyms, through to the likes of Banatynes which will have a pool etc ... Too.

Like you say though, drop me a pm with your contact details and I'll get in touch with you, a pint is always welcome too.

Not sure if you've checked out the rest of the North East forum, but there is a drive out organised for the 22nd of this month I believe?

Thanks again Mark.

22nd we're heading off up to the Scotland for a party over the weekend, so I'll miss that meet/run, but thanks for the heads up. Most likely I'll be in my boring/sensible motor until winter is a distant memory! Certainly wont be bringing the beetle up until I can find somewhere safe & secure to park it overnight.

I've pinged you a PM with my contact details, hopefully you'll get it very soon. No doubt I'll have some time in the evenings next week.

I'll have to add the North East forum to my 'favourite forums' now too biggrin

Thanks.

I'll be looking at getting supplier visits scheduled. The plant looks fab & getting involved at such an early stage was a huge draw for me.

It goes to your e-mail, provided the one you have in your profile is the one you check (guessing it's not). It could be in your SPAM folder if it's not in your inbox.

Hi mate.

Regarding Gym membership if that's important to you, you may want to consider Redworth Hall hotel. Got a nice size gym and a pool. My Mrs has just joined on a corporate rate of £32.00 a month. Just a heads up and I'm not anything to do with the hotel. It's located on the West side of Newton Ayecliffe no more than five minutes drive from your new work place.

Thanks Nige, that's a great price.
