Just found out that I'm going to be spending a week in Newcastle in the middle of March training and staying in a hotel. There will likely be a big group of us and while I don't drink myself I'm sure quite a few do. I don't mind doing the whole pub thing but can't really see me in a nightclub any more. I did turn 40 last year!

Basically I'm looking for suggestions of things to do in an evening in Newcastle for a decent sized group of people of different ages, most likely younger than me!

Lane 7 bowling just up from the Redheugh bridge looks like a decent few hours out.

Never been before but could probably keep a big group occupied...

Lane 7 is fun, but the bowling is pretty expensive considering how fast you'll blast through a game.

Four or five players to a lane should take an hour or more at least?

You could try http://www.climbnewcastle.com/ one evening. They'll do an introductory class for a group.

Longhorns BBQ restaurant.

See if there's any live music on at the Sage.

Wings Wednesday at the Shark Club can be fun too. I've never managed more than 50.

Another thought...

Hanahana Japanese restaurant at the end of Stowell street is great. You sit around the hot plate and they cook your food infront of you, they chefs get people up to play a few games. It's a great laugh.

They also have a karaoke downstairs for when you're finished your meal!

Hei Hei on Dean Street - Mix of real Chinese food and the food served as Chinese to suit our taste! It was a nice change from the usual Stowell Street fare.

The Orchid on the upper Quayside opposite the Copthorne Hotel is really good.

That's really good as we're staying at the Copthorne. Thanks.

Also very near the Copthorne, if you fancy a Thai Restaurant, this place has excellent reviews.

I've heard good things about The Orchid, but I've never been. Is it still a Kevin Liu restaurant? He is the name in Chinese restaurants in Newcastle and Northumberland! Mantra has recently been refurbished and looks very swish. The car park is always rammed at the front, so park on Skinnerburn Road and walk the five minutes there.

I don't think so, it's not on his website - I've been told it is someone who used to be connected to Artisam in Corbridge which I am going to try in a couple of weeks with a bit of luck.
