My bro reckons there are average speed cameras on the Western Bypass when he drove up this evening.

Just spreading the word.

I found them pretty handy today, I like the fact they've split the lanes south so it's on & off or A1 only, I wish they did that the entire length of that road to stop people lane hopping and grinding it all to a halt

I had a look at the plans on the net the other day and i think thats what is going to be done.On off lanes kept separate where appropriate to increase traffic flow.
Since those cameras have been installed despite the narrow lanes the traffic seems to flow quite well.
I wonder if the 50mph limit remains in place once the improvements are complete??

Hi, I'm travelling up there tomorrow on way to Newcastle airport from Redcar & wondered how bad traffic is ? We'll be travelling through somewhere between 8 & 9 am. I know it's normally pretty slow along there but do I need to allow some extra time for road works ?
Phil.

It was pretty chocka when I went through today, I'd allow an extra 15/20 mins or you could go through the Tyne Tunnel.

Ok cheers. Thought about tunnel but decided that may be busy with people avoiding the bypass :-)
I think we'll just set off earlier & have a few drinks at the airport.

But the first and last ones don't, it's hillarious watching people speed between them then hammer the brakes!

Early doors today a Rangerover went past me at about 90, I watched him tanking up to me and then straight past, what a hero!
