Newcastle places to eat?

Fat Buddha on the roundabout where Metro radio is, just off the Tyne bridge for Chinese/Asian.
La Tasca on the quayside for reasonably cheap tapas/spanish beer.
Or theres 1 or 2 Greek places somewhere aswell.
Eta theres a few chain restaurants in "The Gate" also and of course China Town!

I eat out in Newcastle at least twice a week through work and if you want standout places I will be honest and say Newcastle really doesn't have that many compared to other large city's.
House of Tides is brilliant, only been open a short while but is really up there.
Café 21, is still good but I have found it very hit and miss recently.
Broad Chare, same as above (same owner so not surprising).
Six, great views of Newcastle from the top of The Baltic but very mediocre food.
If you want Chinese I always go to The Landmark which I find good but not really authentic.
For Indian food I haven't found anywhere in Newcastle I like and usually venture down to Ocean Road in South Shields. Here you will find most of the restaurants look like throwbacks from the 70's but that's how I like my Indian food.

I can vouch for House of Tides, excellent, I would agree that it is probably heading to be the only current Michelin Star in Newcastle.
Cafe 21 I have always found consistent, dining there Friday so hoping it still is. Broad Chare and Caffe Vivo by same owner also always found reliable and good.
If it is Indian, the city centre is not great, I would be steered towards the west end, the BYOB Kamal Balti house in Fenham is decent and efficient.
Chinese I would only recommend Hei Hei on Dean Street, much more authentic than the tourist traps on Stowell Street (however there are some decent cafe type ones on Stowell street and surrounding areas, but not where you would go 'out' for a meal especially to)
Newcastle has seen the opening of lots of new places over the past couple of years, but nothing that stands out apart from the above. I prefer a drive out in Northumberland for a meal as of late, lots of very good pubs that serve food these days.

Nudo chinese / oriental in Low Friar St does superb food.......I'll be in there on Saturday, and go every time I'm in Newcastle, but it's advisable to book.

I've eaten in Kingdom, and enjoyed it, my other half loathes it, she regards it as "processed"! Fascist!
There's Red Mezze, Turkish, very nice food, very near St James' Park on Leazes Lane.......I have nothing negative to say about it really, other than I walk past the back of the place regularly, as I have a flat nearby, and until recently, the place was a real mess in the areas customers don't generally see. Kind of put me off, which is a shame.

Cafe 21, Broad Chare and Caffe Vivo are all safe options as you've stated above.
In my opinion, the best Chinese restaurant in Newcastle is now Orchid which is on the Quayside opposite the Copthorne Hotel. There's been a change of management and a new head chef was brought in who is excellent.
For Indian food, I would either do Dabbawal on High Bridge Street (off Grey St) or Haveli which is newly opened in Ponteland. Dabbawal is 'street food' but they only sell Cobra so have a few craft beers in the Bacchus first. Haveli is "comfortable fine dining" and offers excellent modern Indian food which is no surprise considering the head chef and manager are both formerly of The Cinnamon Club in London.
So far as Northumberland goes, I enjoy the Duke of Wellington which is a gastropub at Newton and easily accessed from the A69.
There's a great little Thai restaurant in Morpeth called Nadon Thai. It's not the best Thai food ever but pretty decent.
For Italian food, try either Adrianos in Gosforth or Vincenze's in Heaton. Both are excellent. Best pizza is probably Cal's Own on Chilligham Road in Heaton which is BYOB as well.

I really love Babucho... modern, classy place, good crowd of diners, good wine list, good cocktail selection and a good food. Reasonably priced and there's a bar that is busy on the weekends if you're like me and love people watching between courses.

Fenham fish bar for fish n chips or battered black pudding mmmmm mushy peas also delightful
The mill tavern near Bowes incline, tum yum style muscles,steak n chips, sticky toffee pudding
Pitcher n piano on the quayside for a posh fish fingers sand which or a jalapeño burger
