Middlesbrough today: Unusual amount of flashing blue lights.

Did anyone else notice how many ambulances and police seemed to be flying around Middlesbrough today.
Including:
At 4pm-ish a police van, an ambulance, a police BMW estate and two Police Bikes in convoy flying down Marton Road (towards JCH)
2 ambulances, not together (on blues) heading in opposite direction within 5 mins of above.
Numerous ambulances and police on A66, A19 about an hour later.
Was there some sort of 'terror/emergency planning' exercise perhaps or are some people just having an unusually bad day?
