Starter on the Excel has destroyed its internal ring gear. Any recommendations for a rebuilder in the Darlington to 'Boro area ? Preferably same day or overnight service (or exchange)

Thanks in advance.

Yep. was going to recommend these but thought it might be too far away. Used to work there many moons ago when they were opposite Picktree motors!

What motor is it? I have an ex-Esprit starter kicking around somewhere that may be useable on the Excel...

Thanks for the suggestions guys - it's currently in 'Boro for a same day rebuild (dropped off after I dropped SWMBO at work). Unfortunately, I can't justify the time to go up to Sacriston this week.

Thanks for the offer Wedg1e - it's a Lucas M80R from the HC engine. It might be handy to have a spare kicking around, just in case.
Worth a chat about beer tokens sometime ?

Apologies for not taking advice given here. Since I was in charge of SWMBO's Alfa while the Lotus has been off the road (again!) it needed to be somewhere fairly close to home or her work.

I dropped it into Teesside Start Parts on Tame Road and they've done a full refurb. overnight (would have been same day, but they got called out to fix something a little bigger). It came back clean, shiny and painted, with a 12 month warranty, for less than a second-hand motor would have cost me.

Sorry, just seen this, been working away a lot... I'll have to dig the SM out and see if it looks like the one in your pic... I did actually sell it on Ebay a couple of years ago so it's boxed and ready to post - but the buyer never paid so it's still here!
I still have two cam carriers and one serviceable camshaft as well, from a 2L if I recall right. The other cam is there but it has a ring of weld on it: looks like it had snapped eek The head was one I bought as a spare, all the valves were bent (probably explains the snapped cam). I cleaned the head up, binned all the valves and sold it on for more than I'd paid biggrin
