...looks to be closing for good.

Apparently the structural foundations of the bridge aren't coping well at all and as such they are looking to repair it next year, it'll be closed for 6months starting around April...

Then, in the long term to ensure it's "future" it will at minimum be made into a one lane bridge, weather that means one lane only or traffic lights I don't know. There is also muted talk of closing to road traffic all together!

Apparently 3% of the people who cross the Tyne use the bridge that equates to some 8000 cars a day!

shame, that's the best bridge to hoon across purely because it is enclosed and thus the noise is something else!

I don't like using that bridge to be honest. It's great for hooning across, listening to the noise, but then you see a bus coming the other way - he isn't slowing down - the road seems very narrow - oh feck, there's no room - whoosh! How the hell did we not connect?

Shame to close it to traffic when I think the main culprit will be the feckin heavy trains that cross on the top deck.

I was actually overtaken on that bridge! In heavy traffic. Someone decided he needed to assert his maleness over me in the TVR as he only had a Dihatsu 4x4. Lots of charging up to my bumper and rocking back and forward behind me. Eventually he overtook me narrowly missing a bus. Then roceeded to rev his engine whilst I was behind. Maybe he was hoping his exhaust would fall off and I'd run over it.

After much shouting at each other he said:

"Just because you're in a TVR, you think you own the road!"

Almost ended in a punch up. He then proceeded not to let me over take once we had gotten on to the Dual Carriageway. Despite being constantly undertaken he sat resolutely at 40mph blocking me. So In the end I went to undertake and he moved across, but I accelerated and passed him on the right. Idiot. He did try and tailgate me a few miles down the road, but I pulled over and just let him go past.
