This morning first time I ever seen them parked here going southbound 10.20am just past the Metro Centre on top of the grass.
Plenty will get caught there for sure.

They were on grass before lay by, very sneaky as would expect them on lay by.

Yes, probably plenty of HGV drivers who don't recognise the 50 signs.

and enforcing the speed limit outside of rush hour when the road is quiet and perfectly suited to a 70 limit..

No surprises then. lets not be rational and have a variable limit at rush hour, lets wait till the road quietens down and cop as many as possible.

Rumour has it the stretch from Kingston Park to B&Q, both north and south, is going to be changed to 40mph. Should be fun when I'm driving down that stretch every weekend at 6:30am frown

I can't see that happening, it's nowhere near as bad as the Gateshead stretch. It does get a bit slow at times but never as bad as the other side of the river, unless there has been an accident somewhere, when it tends to move at walking pace.

I hope you're right as I agree.

My source for this gem was a friend who recently attended a speed awareness course up Cramlington way...hopefully she is wrong! I think the theory is to slow the traffic down as it approaches the Metro Centre.

Slow it down by making it go slower than the metro centre stretch? Seems like the kind of harebrained scheme the council would come up with, as well as giving the police some handy revenue earning potential. I hope it's not true, but in this day and age I've seen plenty of stupid limits imposed, but only one speed limit ever raised.

The camera van was parked on the grass verge next to the Metrocentre yesterday at around lunch time, it was on the southbound carriageway.I can see that stretch of road being fitted with average speed cameras eventually.

As far as I recall at the time these limits were proposed, it was categorically stated that the measure was solely designed to improve traffic flow and reduce incidents at peak times, but instead of variable limits which the rest of the country gets, we got the cheapy version of permanent limits, just like no motorways in the North East, only DC's. That they should then try and enforce the limit outside of these times is just utterly cynical and completely reinforces the view that their role is purely about revenue.

Whatever happened to only putting cameras where there were accident black spots?...

A bit like the car drivers who think 50 means 40 then give you a look when you overtake them

Speed camera van parked up at the bottom of the Bowes Incline Southbound. Causing drivers to slam on their brakes and generally making a nuisance on a busy Saturday afternoon, if anything, increasing chances of there being a bump.

Ouch, never seen one there before. Where does it park up? Didn't think there was anywhere suitable/safe for them to inflict their petty chaos on that stretch of the 50 limit.
