I drive the A1 from Gosforth turn of till after the Metrocentre quite often, and I have noticed they have closed the layby in both directions north and south at Gosforth, and have set up some bollards instead. There are also these same bollards near the Swalwell turn off too.

I have also noticed they have changed the 50Mph signs to include a speed camera after the bridge over the Tyne.

I am assuming that they are going to use these laybys for speed traps. Does anyone have any more information?

Thanks

Ive always thought that the lay-by's between Gosforth park and Denton burn were not a good idea, especially when trucks are pulling out from them and theres a virtual uninterupted 60 -70 mph flow of traffic coming up behind.
They were probably closed for safety reasons.

There is a speed camera on the Blaydon stretch of the A1 now? Can't say I've ever noticed it, rarely drive down there mind.
